What's new

India may go for 6 to 8 more C-17s : Boeing Defence Chief

IAF is very happy with scheduled delivery of all the six C-130J aircraft by Lockheed Martin and this is the first time that the IAF has received its aircraft from a foreign supplier without delay, on or before time, and without any additional demands on cost.India will be its second biggest customer of C-17s even with current 10 orders

feel good factor!! a product with best in quality and technolgy and that too on or before time...wow

Takes time, development started, but contracting and negotiating the deal took a long time.

Don't forget the other side too:

- no competition, so no negotiations on price or industrial benefits like ToT possible
- according to US laws, these sale will includes restrictions and monitoring from US personal whenever they want
- deal is a simply buyer / seller deal, no JV, licence production, or co-development where our industry would benefit from, that's why these deals create jobs in the US, but not in India

It's good for our forces to add additional capability for certain roles, but it's even better to have a bigger fleet of aircrafts with less restrictions and more industrial benefits as workhorses (MRTA, C295/C27, Saras).

good news..and be assured guys..india will buy few more C-17s in batches just like previous cases.

Cheaper to procure and to operate, useful for strategic (C17) and tactical (C130J) operations, more suited to Indias requirements in the small and medium range and payloads between 30 and 40t and more industrial benefits are possible!

a right decision if taken

this way we get high quality transport jets an we are also not over dependent as would be the case had we opted for US fighter in MRCA

After the US, India will be the only nation with such heavy lift capacity, it's pretty awesome that the US and India are working together, the world needs more of this.

Actually about half a dozen nations have it.
