What's new

India left "disappointed" as US goes ahead with F-16 sale to Pakistan.

what interests?? the U.S is the one paying for these with AID money.

Pakistan is inching closer and closer to China.

Pakistan only needs to do is sign a monster contract with China for some J-10Bs and J-31s

question is will China take over in giving military aid or will Pakistan pay out of it's own pocket and not have to worry about U.S interests

China's no fool. Why should they foot the bill in Afghanistsn when US is more than willing to pay it.

From an article that was posted on original post:

"The agency said the F-16s would allow Pakistan's Air Force to operate in all-weather environments and at night, while improving its self-defense capability and bolstering its ability to conduct counter-insurgency and counter terrorism operations."

What does AIM 9x and/or Aim 120D have to do with counter-insurgency and counter terrorism? Those weapons are India specific. Besides, Pakistan can use its existing stock of US-made air-to-air missiles. It's not like they are using a lot of them, at the moment.

You should know by now that being a "non-NATO ally" doesn't mean anything these days.
just like they sold those 500 aim 120c5 to pakistan for under the same umbrella "anti terror" do you get the hint? now who is this terror? take a good guess.

to be frank i find it quiet obsessive when india moans when pakistan buys weapons. why? pakistan dont care what you buy. also pakistan and the usa go way back to the 60's india is still a newbie in the usa market with a few p8's and a few others trickling in with them.

If India threatens Pakistan then yes, these weapons will be used to stop Indian aggression. Recent Indian procurements have the potential to seriously jeopardise stability in region. Pakistan is well within her rights to procure weapons to offset imbalance. Just 8 F-16s are not enough however. Soon enough Pakistan will procure more F-16s are equally or more capable fighter jets. Stop whining. Deal with it. You are not the only one with right to defend.

Waste of Resources

You don't have a clue about how good this deal is if it goes through.

because of China might get it's hand on one of them :undecided: and it could change the balance of power between Pakistan and India.

Appreciate your concern for balance of power. Care to look at Order of Battle in the region?

Your weapons are probably being inspected by Russians in India as we speak. Why don't you ask mighty Indian forces to clean up the mess in Afghanistan? Just replace fleeing British, German, Canadians etc? Try it and you will get it!

When was these AIM 120c5 sold to Pakistan? Was it the same time when US gave/sold Harpoon missile, P-3Cs, a Perry-class frigate, or anything Pakistan asked for, as an inducement to join the WoT?

After the US decided to leave Afghanistan, and capture of OBL, US relations with Pakistan has changed, narrowing in focus. You can see how US is steadily reducing economic and military aid, and how CSF is being reduced, and with conditions attached. In the process, US has also narrowed the selection of weapons to Pakistan limited to counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency.

Pakistan does moan when India buys weapons. You will hear complaints about how India's military purchases is causing an imbalance in the region as if only Pakistan has a right to modernize its military.

And who cares what Pakistan and US relations were in the 1960s. The Cold War is over and is replaced by a new geo-strategic reality-- dealing with China. India and US are one on this.

And India may be a newbie in US military market, but its a big buyer. P8s, P3-Cs, Globemasters, Apache Helicopters and they don't ask for military aid.

My post has nothing do with Pakistan having a right to defend itself. My response was why air-to-air missiles were not included in the deal, not Pakistan's right to acquire them.

I doubt the U.S will ever sell Pakistan Aim-9X or Aim-120D

better off going for A-Darter and R-Darter from Denel.
Will us allow Pakistan to tweak the F 16s to use the Darter?

HIGHLIGHTS
• Government said it is "disappointed" with the Obama administration's decision to sell eight F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan.

• It said it will summon US ambassador Richard Verma over the matter, news agency ANI reported.

• Pentagon said the proposed sale improves Pakistan's capability to meet current and future security threats.

• The US decision came despite strong objections by a number of American lawmakers over the sale.

NEW DELHI: India is "disappointed" that the US has approved the sale of eight F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan and it plans to summon the US ambassador to New Delhi to convey its "displeasure".

"We are disappointed at decision of the Obama administration to notify the sale of F-16 aircrafts to Pakistan. We disagree with their rationale that such arms transfers help to combat terrorism," the ministry of external affairs said on Saturday. US ambassador Richard Verma is to be summoned about the matter, news agency ANI reported.

The Defence Security Cooperation Agency - a wing of the Pentagon - said in a statement, that this proposed sale worth nearly USD 700 million contributes to US foreign policy objectives and national security goals by helping improve the security of a strategic partner in South Asia. The Pentagon said the proposed sale improves Pakistan's capability to meet current and future security threats sand won't alter the military balance in the region,

The Indian government said Pakistan's record in encouraging cross-border terrorism "for the last many years speaks for itself".

The US government's notification on the sale of the fighter jets, equipment, training, and logistics support comes despite mounting opposition from influential lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties.

"This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded," said the Defence Security Cooperation Agency.

These additional F-16 aircraft will facilitate operations in all-weather, non-daylight environments, provid self- defence and area suppression capability, and enhance Pakistan's ability to conduct counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.

"It will increase the number of aircraft available to the Pakistan Air Force to sustain operations, meet monthly training requirements, and support transition training for pilots new to the Block-52. Pakistan will have no difficulty absorbing these additional aircraft into its air force," the Pentagon agency said.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a State Department official defended the decisions of the US government. "We strongly support the proposed sale of eight F-16s to Pakistan. This platform will support Pakistan's counter-terrorism and counterinsurgency operations, and has contributed to the success of these operations to date," the official said.

Summon all US envoys across the world, still won't change anything. Like I told those that were being smug about Indian influence in the US, Don't overestimate the Indian influence, and don't underestimate Pakistan.
