India is unable to fight a two front war with Pakistan and China

India is not eager for war - just defensive protection. We do not want a repeat of 26/11 and unfortunately, a lot of terrorists are Pakistani trained.

I do not think India will force an offensive in Azad Kashmir any time in the near future, unless there is an internal rebellion against Pakistan (like what happened Bangladesh). A war of attrition will drain our economy putting us several decades backward. We do not want that.

I don't support any terrorism against anyone.
There never will be an internal rebellion in Pakistan, Bangla was a unique case, not to mention it was a land out of our reach in many senses.

Anyway without gong off-topic, war is a terrible thing.

Did you forget about Swat and Baluchistan? There are ongoing rebellions going on as we speak

Difficult to face joint China-Pak threat: IAF - Hindustan Times

Difficult to face joint China-Pak threat: IAF

The Indian Air Force has dropped a bomb with its alarming admission that it will be difficult for it to tackle a combined threat from China and Pakistan, raising questions about the country's ability to fight a two-front war.

The IAF has told a Parliamentary panel that Pakistan would certainly fish in troubled waters if China were to launch offensive operations against India. It, however, stressed that China may not pose "a collusive threat" if hostilities were to break out between India and Pakistan.

Setting off alarm bells, a senior IAF officer informed the Parliamentary standing committee on defence that a "collusive threat" from China and Pakistan would be difficult to tackle but the air force was prepared for it.

"We have made plans in case of contingency-III (two-front war)," he said, adding that India had upgraded its policy against China from dissuasion to deterrence.

The IAF currently operates 34 fighter squadrons, against a desirable 42. In a report tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, the panel asked the IAF to scale up its capabilities by speeding up the acquisition of 126 French Rafale fighters, a deal worth Rs. 120,000 crore.

The panel flagged concerns about poor border infrastructure on the Indian side, at a time when China has ramped road, rail and air connectivity across the line of actual control (LAC).

The panel warned that the pace of China's military modernisation and infrastructure development had affected the "strategic balance" between the two countries.

"Our defence forces must develop the capability to fight a multi-front war," the panel said. India is years behind the Chinese military with the neighbour currently outnumbering the country's combat power by a 3:1 ratio. India's hopes to bridge the gap in the next 15 years hinge on availability of funds.

Finance minister P Chidambaram on Monday announced that the defence budget for 2014-15 had been hiked from Rs. 203,672 crore to Rs. 224, 000 crore, a 10% increase over last fiscal's outlay.

However, the meagre increase in the capital expenditure could hit the modernisation plans of the armed forces. The capital outlay has been increased from Rs. 86,740 crore to Rs. 89,587 crore in the interim budget for 2014-15, a hike of barely 3.2%.

China's official, but underreported, defence budget for 2013-14 stands at Rs. 594,000 crore.
Its not difficult almost impossible for India to face two front war only in Air Force they would have to face around 1300 jets so no way two front war

yeah, i agree. But these two front war threads are fun though. Whenever any element of Indian Armed Forces needs more budjet, their chief brings out two front war bias.

You seem to underestimate the magnitude of importance India holds in World Affairs scenario.Ukraine and India are diametrically opposite in terms of world affairs.

Hi,

Actually india holds nothing of importance geographically----. It cannot control Pakistan on its own----it cannot control china on its own.

Pakistan has no issues with the U S---it has no issues with Russia----so there is no issue of control---. Pak military is always pro American----. The only benefit that india is for the u s is for the sale of its defence items----other than that---nothing---zilch,

The americans can turn to the ex eastern bloc for all its IT and call center needs---.

OTOH---india desperately needs American blessings---it literally cannot survive without the americans---. As a matter of fact---the americans have the Indians in such a position that the Indians would have to kow tow to the americans if the sh-it hits the fan.

Indians---so far---have only seen American love---they yet have to see its displeasure----.

"White race"? Um, have you actually been to America in the last 50 years?

Biggest military challenge for India is a two-front war against China and Pakistan, we know it and they know it. If a war is to break out between China and India over "southern Tibet"/"Arunachal Pradesh" it could very well entice Pakistan to join depending who is the COAS and Government party in power, not to mention Chinese government may very well encourage and message Pakistani Government to do just that. It's neither in China's interest nor Pakistan's interest for India to hold onto the remaining part of Kashmir and southern Tibet. Nor do I think China's future plans will accommodate a regional power India which can challenge Chinese navy in the Indian Ocean. Hence, many Chinese Think Tanks repeatedly publish breaking India up, starting with the north east Indian provinces which are the easiest provinces to liberate from India. China is asserting it's economic power in India already in the forms of investments where Chinese own large shares of companies inside India and the military infrastructure China has built along their southern border with India is indicative of the importance China gives to that front and potential for a war in the future.
