India just blew it on your own face.. Over the top reaction from the govt and gave a mere documentary among thousands created daily by the Western media on third world miseries, Unwarranted attention.. Now some innocent dude is dead getting lynched by a mob and Indian men are being tarnished globally unfairly, Even effecting their careers.. BBC will continue making stories to sell to their public and nobody else will have jurisdiction over them

This is what happens when hyper defensive nationalism goes overboard..

Even if its not, you think the documentary will not reinforce and promote such bigotry that will affect Indians directly and indirectly ?

As will the cases of rapes that will continue to get reported as also creating an outcry over a documentary that not many would have seen if it has not been given the additional publicity. If you see what the German Professor has alluded to, she is talking about repeated reports of rape and especially attacks on foreign tourists. In the documentary, there are atleast voices that also reflect a different image, that will never be the case in the normal reporting of rapes.

In any case, my point has been quite simple. It was foolish of the government to have got involved because all it did was to stop Indians from seeing the documentary (which if I remember, you wanted Indians to see - atleast in your 1st post on the matter) and did nothing to prevent foreigners from seeing it, even acting as a publicity machine for the film. How did that help?

This is pathetic action by Germans.

Didn't expect this foolishness from such a bright and educated country.

I guess their tendencies to bow down to their Allied masters hasn't gone away.
you have no idea about Germany then , they give amount of money to churches from taxes which then go to luther churches in India to create hysteria.

Well, what you said is true 100%, along with the fact that our media is overhyping all rapes.

This thread seems to unite us Asians more than anything...

At the end of the day, the west is against us and we against each other. And guess what the west wants exactly this. A united asia is their worst nightmare.

That german professor will now say everything to dilute her initial mail. Its foolish to take anything she says seriously any more. Any indication of racism will have serious consequence for her career and will become a permanent record against her.

Indian govt. had a responsibility to try and correct the mistake of the congress govt. Their decision was the most logical one they could have taken wrt to preventing a jaded documentary from getting out. The consequence of their action was beyond their control and it was harder to predict the impact if they had not banned it. Hindsight is always 20-20.

However those those who supported that documentary for either just to be anti Govt., pro secular or just under a misguided belief in equality and fair play carry the burden of its after effects. At least morally.

Do you think this correspondence is post the documentary?

The documentary is just aired so we dont need a talk about it.
But look at the damage doneby the irresponsible reporting. This what happened when you give permission to some foreigners in the name freedom and openness.
Any way that guy has just lost a good opportunity for studying in a prestigious institute due to some reason that he dont hVave any part.

I must agree with the Chinese, Bangladeshi and Pakistani posters here. Our own media went overboard, overhyping a problem all of a sudden. I remember when I was young India was known as a country of snake charmers, then slums and now rape.

Its good that you agree with the Chinese, bangladeshi and Pakistani posters.

For a minute i was horrified that you will agree to an Indian poster. :coffee:

No doubt in the future you will agree again with British and German posters.

Congress is responsible for this. They gave permission to make documentary!!

So the documentary is the problem but not what was exposed in the documentary. You want to kill the messenger to suppress the message which exposes the mind of this rapist.

It's not about the Congress and BJP thing but about indian thing and we gave them permission like we gave British India company to set plants in India in past thinking they will create job for us indians .

I think most of the Indians here are saying the same thing.

Err...that was the original mail. (she's beyond stupid, people in much less important jobs than her know how to hide prejudice better, this is probably more racial prejudice than any concern about rape )

We disagree. The hype on the documentary was created in India first, especially with the rivalry between television channels. They would have moved on to the next topic the next day. The government should have known better. I had said then itself that this would backfire and would certainly not achieve the stated idea of preventing the viewing. Regardless of what you think about the documentary itself, you seriously can't dispute that this has been a PR disaster..
