NEW YORK - Pakistan has taken exception to a New York Times editorial published in the wake of the recent Iran nuclear deal that urges major powers to turn their attention to constraining Pakistan’s nuclear and strategic capabilities, saying India was first to explode an atomic weapon in South Asia.
"Unfortunately, the editorial painted Pakistan as a country that is recklessly building its nuclear arsenal," Nadeem Hotiana, press attache at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington, wrote in a letter published in the newspaper on Thursday.
"Pakistan was not the first to introduce nuclear weapons in South Asia; India did," he pointed out.
Pakistan, he said, had to develop nuclear capability purely for self-defence. "Regrettably, the editorial conveniently avoided referring to India’s aggressive military posturing and its expanding nuclear and missile capabilities," Hotiana wrote. "Giving a special waiver for nuclear trade to India was detrimental to strategic stability in South Asia."
Pakistan, the letter said, had no desire to engage in a conventional or nuclear arms race. "Pakistan has consistently called for a dialogue with India to address all issues of mutual concern, including terrorism," it said.
"Pakistan’s proposal to India of a strategic restraint regime has remained on the table since 1999 without a positive response. In this context, finger-pointing exclusively at Pakistan while ignoring India’s actions was quite baffling.
"I ask that you support Pakistan’s overtures for peace and its consistent calls for dialogue with India. Such an approach would be nondiscriminatory and has a better chance of yielding dividends of peace and stability in South Asia."

Point is simple. You guys have created lot of blood with India in past 30 40 years. Now when India is running away in stature, Pakistan wants to talk rationale, sense, equality and justice.

Not that easy my friend. When Benazir Bhutto cried Islam for Kashmir against Hindus of India in 1989, that was the time Pakistan itself chose no treaty with India.

Pakistan will be foolish if it thinks that it's gonna be their way every time. This time you will have to wait for India to respond and you can't do nothing bout it. Only way is create a position in international arena with prosperity and economic growth. Being bitch of superpowers will never do the job. It needs perseverance and long hard work to achieve that status. We have earned it. When will you?

Ah well, well, well .....Of course India introduced Nuclear Weapons to South Asia while another country introduced Non State Actors terrorists as instruments of State Policy. So which is more of a clear and imminent danger to the Region?

What is new now......

Fvck the NYT. We will do whatever is in our interest. Let's see what anyone can do about that.

As for India, they did start the nuclear race in South Asia. Today, Pakistan is undoubtedly a nuclear power due to Indian possession of nukes. You reap what you sow.

At that time when Pakistan was a baby, India did a nuclear test in 1974. India's nuclear program is much older and we were denied nuclear status or membership into NSG by arrogant Americans.

India has no intention of Arms Race with any South Asian country due to the nature of our relations with most of the SA countries and Size our our country and Military

Thus Our present/Future Strategic Weapons or nuclear subs, is for Deterrence and larger Geopolitical interest outside the bounds of SA

Though i personally believe in First Use Policy especially from Underwater

And US of A introduced nuclear arms race in the WORLD. It's not about who introduced it, It's about being a responsible country.
