India interested in Japan’s bullet train technology

But why do we need to have HSR ? just because China has it!

Railways in India are mass movers and cheap option for the masses. They should make the Railways efficient instead of this High Speed bull crap.
Still need bullet.. It'd create jobs. The world wants to have bullet but can't afford. At least India can do delhi to mumbai and expand from there. People would LOVE to have family room or ladies only section, than fly in airplane where they often get seperated.

That's why i am saying that it should be run on Delhi metro's model rather than Public owned Indian railways. It would be developed only if it turns out to be profitable.

China's bill is inflated due to technology chosen. China chose Maglev tech for it's fast speed trains which is costliest of all available options.
Delhi's model ? You mean soft loans ? With 40% percent below poverty line we surely need Bullet train because aeroplanes aren't fast enough for us.

Maglev ? Are you sure ?

Maglev only runs on a short distance from the airport to Pudong in Shanghai.

China HSR is a modified version of Shinkansen.

How do you want to improve the economy with this pathetic infrastructure?

MAssive investments in infrastructure projects are needed to recover!
yes sir, lets start with basics ? Maximum goods transport is done via road, where trains don't ply, highways are real blood line of this nation too

I will tell you why i am so skeptical sir, These bullet train ride from Bombay - delhi will cost ~5000-6000, nothing less as implementation would be limited to this corridor, thats flirting with price of airlines, i don't see many takers then

I am not against HSR, hell if it comes, i get more work ( i am a contractor for Indian Railway) butthere are few important things that need to be sorted out first

Yeah sure it's just a few hundred billion dollars for a ladies only compartment and a family room in a freaking train

Infrastructure everywhere( even in capitalistic countries ) is created using soft loans. Break even period of Infrastructure projects is so long ( sometime more than life of investor ) that it require long term loans with flexible payment schedules.

There is a point that HSR is too expensive but it does have very important economic benefits. If you have a within 700-800km (longer ones are pointless) range HSR's, you are effectively killing the distance (from economic centres) issue. Economic benefits from that are huge. However the cost of setting up each line is prohibitive.

Isn't that what air travel does.I have traveled quite often (11 times to be precise) between Beijing to Shanghai. It doesn't cut time and neither it is cheaper but it surely is better than going through the horrors of airport checkins. The Second Class ticket costs US$90 (and it's subsidised) and it takes 5hrs to cover 1300 Km's.What the airfare between Mumbai and Delhi ?

But India surely need fast railways to transfer goods between economic centers.

Ok don't have bullet train, never do. Happy?
They will build in Pakistan so we we will follow you guys :pakistan:

Which capitalist country is this ? America ? UK? Australia? Canada? NZ?

Even the communist one's haven't developed because of soft loans. They have all developed because of manufacturing sector, natural resources or both.

We rather have education.. Plus we aren't as dense as india so it'd not be economically viable. Airplanes are good enough for us.

Still, we need education more. We are making terrorists, due to lack of education. India doesn't have terroristss problem as muchbas we do. 50% kids are without education.

Which is why I said preferably only to about 700-800 km. Longer than that & flights starts to make more sense. At these short distances, especially in the sub 300km range, it makes a heck a lot of sense. the competition there would be buses (assuming fares will be workable). I don't buy the logic in very long distance rail travel except that in an Indian situation, you can reduce the number of sleepers & hence carry much larger number of passengers per train

How many people do you think will travel between Bangalore and Mumbai Daily , if the ticket is lets say INR 2K.

No idea but I would guess a fairly large number. I wasn't actually thinking that far, I was thinking more lines within a state or to nearby states reducing time of travel to under 2 hours would increase economic activity highly.
