Senior General Min Aung Hlaing is internationally blamed for his role in the Rohingya tragedy

The Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar Defence Services who is currently visiting India should be brought to justice for his role behind the genocide of the Rohingya, a leading member of the ruling coalition of Bangladesh has stated. Hasanul Haq Inu, a member of the Sheikh Hasina-led ruling combine in Dhaka, said that Senior General Min Aung Hlaing is internationally blamed for his role in the Rohingya tragedy.

“General Min Aung Hlaing has been named by the UN for being the power behind the genocide and displacement of the Rohingyas from Myanmar. He should be brought to the altar of justice,” the Bangladeshi leader told The Hindu on phone from Dhaka.

The senior Myanmar figure is currently on a tour of India and held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the Indian side discussed military-to-military, counter-insurgency capacity-building with him.

The visit drew attention of rights activists who pointed out that the UN Human Rights Council has called for investigation and prosecution of General Min Aung Hlaing for crime against humanity. The 440-page report by the office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights pointed at the general’s role in the military campaign in the Rakhine province that led to the death of unknown number of Rohingya individuals and displacement of 1.2 million members of the community who are currently in Bangladeshi shelters near Chittagong. The report recounted the military campaign included cases of planned mass murders of the Rohingya community members.

In a 2018 report, Amnesty International had also called for bringing General Min Aung Hlaing to justice for his role in the the violence that targeted the Rohingyas.

Mr. Inu, who is a former information minister, said that hosting of the general does not give a “favourable” impression of India which he described as a “great democracy”. “We demand trial of the persons behind the genocide of the Rohingya people and repatriation of the community to the Rakhine state of Myanmar,” Mr. Inu said.

Let Bharat do whatever it want. We should not say anything. I only hope Awami League put behind it's anger and petty politics and mend it's relation with Pakistan. Hosting Qamar Javed Bajwa in Dhaka to discuss various defence related issues would have been very nice . But unfortunately, AL lives in 1971, not in 2019.

Yea play games with our security then cry if we do something............. Wasnt its not your concern made out when BD bought Chinese subs?

Bangladesh needs to mind it's own business , Myanmar has an open border with India ,Myanmar is an important partner for India's Act East Policy ,hosting leaders of Myanmar is natural in between two neighbors who "trust" each other.

How is building better relations with Myanmar no in BD's interest ? BD needs to stop looking at this from the prism of religion.

Then thwart Chinese submarine and naval base project in Bangladesh

Have you ever fly a kite? Oh, it could be haram for you.. but that's okay..... When you fly a kite, you sometimes release some cord, and sometimes pull it, that's how you control a kite. :)

Check what happened in Sri Lanka, they also built a Chinese naval port, then fell into severe Chinese debt trap, and leaned on India for help and support, meanwhile we got them to block Chinese navy's access to that port. But you won't understand the games big boys play. :)

Do not compare us with Sri Lanka. We are a long long distance away from falling into debt trap. Most important thing is, this Chinese submarine and naval base project is happening under supposedly 'India friendly' govt. in Bangladesh unlike Sri Lanka. Awami League is the best you got in Bangladesh, and they are doing this! Now you can only imagine what are the oppositions in Bangladesh. Even most of the Awami League supporters do not look favorably to Hasina's tie with India.

Sri Lankans would die in shame if you compare Bangladesh with Sri Lanka, let alone claiming Bangladesh to be better.

And your leadership is doing exactly what we are permitting them to do. As I said earlier, you won't understand the games big boys play. :)

OK, Thank you for permitting us to buy Chinese weapons, building Chinese Submarine and naval base, making China our biggest trade partner, giving most of the lucrative mega infrastructure projects to China, accepting 30-40 billion dollar Chinese money and many other things. Now be happy accepting this thanks and go to bed. Sweet dreams.

That's the 'releasing cord of the kite' part, we will pull it in the right time. It's beyond your ability to understand, even after explaining. :)

How are you? I just dropped by after a long time to play with new Bangladeshi kids here... having a good time. :)
