Vatican didn't become rich all suddenly. ... it is in developed country... and between rich countries....unlike us who are after each others religion. .. still struck in medieval mindset.
Vatican got most of its riches when the west was certainly not "developed"...but were certainly bloodthirsty expansionist crooks. The Vatican certainly has hoarded a lot more wealth than Sai Baba or Tirupathi temple can ever dream of.
They are on a different league altogether....we cannot and should not excuse their horrible actions of the past and their ill-gotten wealth arising from it. Are we also to overlook and accept the scores of Priest child sexual-abuse cases worldwide too in the name of the greater good and because many cases are in so-called developed and rich countries (who also have often gotten rich from exploiting other human beings of different societies simply because they were of a different creed, colour and society)?
The medieval mindset is found in every religion at its core interpretation by human beings....because humans are imperfect and very vulnerable creatures in our psyche. Do not think a country becomes rich and suddenly its religion becomes pure. There is a reason why the West is abandoning its Christianity in ever increasing numbers.....but I doubt the same will ever happen in essentially Dharmic India....because Hinduism itself is not a religious dogma but a collection of many various philosophies and the freedom to choose between them. Why do you think minorities of all sorts have flourished here for millenia when they have been obliterated in the histories of the abrahamic faiths under the aegis of the vengeful God of the old testament...the current manifestation of which we see in the most recent of this family of religions? Why do you think ranjeet said you have to go through 1000 iterations of insults before he is insulted by what you post?
So no, do not compare the two worlds, they are very different in intent, higher function and foundation. We can all go through reforms to rationalise and even purge elements of human interpretation and understanding of this foundation....but I see only the Dharmic world being able to do this long term and organically without abandoning its greater overall tenets to seek truth, whatever it be. Just look at how "mainstream" Hinduism has continuously evolved much like the Avatars of Vishnu from its inception just before the Vedic period.
Can you say the same for the Abrahamic faiths which relies on just one storyline, one rigid monotheistic thought process and a strict dogmatic code with equal measure stick and carrot? I see the majority of rationalists and differing perceptionists having to simply abandon the doctrine because there is no creative space for them.
That is the real fight we Hindus have on our hands these days.....when any abrahamic leader be he a pastor, bishop, mullah or imam wants to shove dogmatism and salvation down our throats and then have the utter gall to imply our own venerable ancient faith is antiquated, nonsensical and even evil....that we must be "saved" from.
It is these folk that are the most dangerous for the fabric of our nation....deal with them and control them and I swear that 99% of these "attacks on minorities" will go away in the blink of an eye. Their reactionary counterparts are now also shamefully there in some of the invented streams of Hindu thought....they will also vanish once their raison d'etre goes away...
You cannot expect us to continually take every slap on our face and never respond.
For that reason I say let the pastor and his congregation be investigated as well, transparently and neutrally...alongside the attackers who have so easily given in to the temptation of physical violence.
I say this because I have seen the activities of the Church and I know its history. Excuse me if I dont give them the benefit of the doubt.
All must be equal before the law....no one should get a free pass because of Secularism....because you might as well call it anti-Hinduism at that point.
