NEW DELHI: India on Monday handed over letter written by Mumbai attack accused Ajmal Amir Iman Kasab to Pakistan's acting High Commissioner
Afrasiab, stating he is a "Pakistani".

what would be pakistans response?

They will disown him and say he is not a Pakistani, it is quite predictable. I will be surprised if they accept him to be a Pakistani citizen.

^Exactly. Hence the futility of handing evidence of Pakistan. It will most likely be rejected as "fake", "forgery", or "insufficient", and that will be that.

if that will be the case that it opens up a whole new discussion about what kind of evedence will pakistan consider to be genuine and not fake?
my friends from pakistan and india can you please elaborate on this? thanks

A letter isn't 'evidence', how is this letter going to help in lockign up Hafiz Saeed or Lakshvi in a court of law?

Has anyone from Pakistan been allowed to interrogate the guy?

How about the reported phone calls to 'handlers'? Has anything been given to Pakistan to allow for prosecutions in a court of law?

Its really amusing watching Indians grasping at straws to somehow try and show how India is 'providing evidence'.

The whole thing is a strawman - India conducts a pathetic excuse of an exercise by handing over a 'letter', trumpets it as 'sharing evidence', when it knows it is hardly that, and then whines and complains about Pakistan rejecting its ridiculous gesture and paints Pakistan as 'insincere'.

This act deserves to be rejected by Pakistan (though I have no idea what the official GoP reaction will be) since that is all it is worth.

It is not really any evidence but if Pakistan accepts him to be its Citizen based on the contents of the letter (and its internal enquiry) it will be the first step of accepting that Pakistani soil and elements has been used for the terror attack.

the Indians should let GEO TV interview the guy in person. Why don't they at least let some non-Indian news crew do a video interview with him? The situation between India and Pakistan is tense enough that extraordinary measures should be taken to present credible evidence to the peoples of both countries.

surely a letter just cannot be considered an evidence, but it can lead to something concrete such as a joint discussion between the 2 countries about how the investigation was conducted and how they managed to come to conclusion about the letter. and later the 2 countries can take the investigations forward together.
thanks

The 'first step' was detaining Hafiz Saeed, Lakshvi and others, and banning the JuD and taking over its assets.

These were the people purported to be directly involved in the Mumbai attacks. I would think the next reasonable thing to do would be for India to join in the investigation as Pakistan has asked, and prosecute these people in court with the evidence she has.

Instead, all we hear is more belligerence and threats.

The Indian's don't want a 'joint discussion' or a 'joint investigation' or a 'joint' anything.

They apparently are only interested in in Pakistan saying 'yes Masah!'

Pakistan has offered joint investigations from the get go, with a blatant refusal from India to cooperate on anything. The joint investigation offer still stands from Pakistan's side.

No media channels are being allowed to interview him. Its a sensitive matter and in any case we don't want this guy to get any publicity.

Did Britain or USA give media airtime to the Subway bombers or the 9/11 hijackers?

The tense situation has been created in order to pressurize Pakistani into taking action. Without the pressure, the whole thing will be swept under the carpet and forgotten like the numerous other Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attacks.

India has conducted its own investigations, and so have the countries whose citizens were killed. The results are coming out and they all point to Pakistan.

In the meantime, it is essential that Pakistan acts to arrest these terrorists and destroy the terror infrastructure. The entire Pakistani establishment knows who these people are, where their camps are and where the funding comes from. Why wouldn't they? They're often extensions of the state.
It is highly absurd that Pakistan is demanding evidence to act against terrorist camps which it already knows all about.

Sharing incomplete/preliminary evidence will only give Pakistan an excuse to deny its validity. Most likely, India will build a foolproof case and then reveal the details.

In todays meeting where evidence (satellite phone intercepts, terrorsits confession which is video recorded) in a CD which played for 50 mins has been shared with foreign emissaries of 120 countries. I think after this they will start sharing the evidence with Pakistan.

Your own Geo News has confirmed that he's a Pakistani, and other media reports have indicated that Pakistan is trying to cover up.

Clearly, Pakistan knows who Ajmal is. If Pakistan was sincere about delivering justice, it would have admitted that he's a Pakistani national.

The 9/11 participants all killed themselves. Capturing Kasab alive is somewhat unique. And, the US (or Britain) were not dealing with a hostile neighbor. I'm just saying that India should defuse the tensions by being extraordinarily forthcoming with incontrovertible evidence that can be digested by the sensible portion of the Pakistani public. IMHO this would be better than holding all its cards to its chest and allowing a "he said, she said" type of argument over the perpetrators to go on and on with Pakistan.

If that turns out to be the case, it would be a wise move, and understandable, since India may be trying to ensure that she has everyone else on board with the evidence, which might reduce the likelihood of Pakistan rejecting or not acting against the alleged perpetrators when presented with the same evidence that has been accepted as credible by these people.

However, diplomats are not criminal investigators. This evidence will likely be corroborated by the investigative agencies of the UK and US, and the rest will take their cue from whatever conclusions the professionals arrive at.

I am still not convinced India will actually share evidence after this PR exercise, though I would be fine with being proved wrong.
