I have recently been to Gujarat after 5 years. What I saw was pure bliss. In country like India, where projects take awful lot of time to even start, gujarat is progressing fast, faster than India as a whole. Infact in the past decade or so of governance under Modi, Gujarat has grown at "chinese" rate of double digit growth consistently. He has made gujaratis feel proud of their economic prosperity.

In many ways, his style of functioning & governance is akin to Chinese style of growth. Large MNC's (majority being into heavy engineering & manufacturing, Oil & gas, energy etc, which provide a lot of employement too for unskilled & semi-skilled labors unlike other parts like b'lore driven by software industries) are making beeline for setting up bases in Gujarat. He has made life of average people prosperous. One cant judge him by one particular incident alone.

Modi was elected CM of Gujurat 2 consecutive times in free and fair elections capturing majority of votes. If this trend continues its almost sure that he will be elected again.

What happened was strictly according to the law of the land which specifies that any document that is not marked for keeping or is asked by the court shall be destroyed after a period of five years. Maintenance of paperwork for more than 5 years is cumbersome to say the least.
