India : Government set to revise women’s legal age for marriage to 21

I feel like it’s an over-reach from the government. The government should not be limiting what age it’s citizens can marry. As long the marriage is Islamic, it should be legal.

That means:
-No Childs (15 & over)
-Girl & Guy must “Qabool” with sincere heart
-No compulsion to anybody

15 is way too young. Just because a person has matured physically, it doesnt mean they have matured mentally too.

Some people (including yourself) dont realise this which is exactly why a legal age limit is needed so they dont end up pressuring young girls into a lifelong commitment.

It will encourage parents to send their kids to college. You can't marry her off at 18, within 3 years you get a degree.

What rubbish. Can everyone go to college in India? Will going to college guarantee jobs for everyone in India?

Theres literally no way to verify that, and there is no stopping people who marry off their children for political/social reasons. Thats why a law is needed.

I think arranged marriage is needed. If parents did not even slightly pressure, then girls wouldn’t marry until their 30s.

Its okay to gently nudge or guide someone into a path, thats what parents are supposed to do; but if a girl is pressured into a marriage for fear of her parents unhapiness or ostracisation then they cant make a lifelong commitment at such a young age.

Rubbish? Make logical arguments. It's not about getting everyone to collage, but millions of women who wanted to go to a college but couldn't do so because of pressure back home. That is when you complete senior schools, you will be 17-18 and are soon getting married. Not to mention those getting married before 18 which is quite high.

21 is the right age, in fact, in many countries, it's the legal age for women to marry. Now, if they become call center operatives great, I mean earning 15-20 k a month is not bad for a women and I'd have no problem with a lady getting a call center job than sit at home and cook. Maybe that's what you think women should do.

Let me make it very simple for you to understand. Raising the marriage age to promote education is great in a nation with 50:50 males to females or thereabouts. India has a shortage of females - not because of some governmental one-child policy, but because of female infanticide due to cultural selection pressure. This ruling will not stop that fundamental cultural problem.

Females will now get married later. Hence, the shortage of females around anyway will be made to wait longer to have children (of course, one "solution" that you're now bound to see is more kids outside of marriage - but let's not discuss that presently).

So, fewer females waiting longer to have kids means fewer kids AND more men being partnerless for longer. You think I'm joking? Look at China and how they're sensibly now rowing back on one-child policy, realising the stagnation caused by this.

India has a different underlying cause (cultural misogyny) but the net effect will be the same. Raising the marriage age will compound the problems caused by a male-biased population map.

If you TRULY gave a rat's tail about female empowerment (funny you should blindly accuse me of misogyny without understanding the issue being discussed from a population point of view), you would advocate for improved cultural practice in India, along with better opportunity for young women and improved healthcare for girls. You still have "period huts" in your villages and girls get raped while going for a shitt - these problems will not be fixed by raising the marriage age.

Women over 30 are not fit to give birth. They are increasing the age to decrease the population.

Muslim woman are allowed to get married if they are mature. There is no need to follow this artificial age requirement.
