India gets Afghan peace talks slot

Cm'on man these are Taliban leaders not some low level separatist ones ... They didn't stop resisting Soviet rule for more than 10 years even after all the benefits that it offered ... Do you think that US didn't offer them all that ? ... What makes you think they will accept this time ?

Whether it is Separatist of Taliban every one has a thrust of Power and paisa. Taliban is no different from it. they will come to negotiation and will enjoy the lavish Political life. just wait and see.

.
Does India have any contacts with Afghan Taliban, the men with real power in Afghanistan? No. So stop dreaming.

There'll be two options for Karzai once U.S. leaves Afghanistan, either he'll be assasinated or exiled.

BBC News - Karzai abandons peace talks with the Taliban

Do we?????according to lots of members on this forum ..Doesn't India controls the TTP, that is some kind of taliban according to you guys ....right???

taking Afghanistan from americans and give to the others, what is the logic in it.

I think the only expectation Pakistan has from Taliban is that they won't let Afghanistan become an Indian proxy state. They don't have to be Pakistani puppets. Only to make sure India doesn't cause trouble.

Why didn't they accept in the 80's then and why aren't they accepting now ? :P The Taliban logic is clear ... They want no foreign powers on their soil ... Just tell me this thing ... Will Indian diplomats use mind control to persuade Taliban when even USSR and USA have failed ?

i think everybody is giving gthe same exuse to use afghan soil. at the end of the day we suffer.

Whether or not India will play an important role in Afghanistan depends on the courage of the Indian Nation. Of course Pakistan will oppose Indian involvement tooth and nail. So, India will play a meaningful role only if India can suck up the courage to be on Afghanistan's side, even though it may provoke more terrorism in India from Pakistan. That is, more innocent Indian deaths in the cause of Afghani freedom and autonomy. Is India ready to be a major world power? Only if it has the courage and stamina to confront terrorism. I think the jury is out on that question. India's pacifist culture may exclude it from being a true player on the World scene. Pakistan's stomach for wielding terrorism may trump India's soft power.

Doesn't matter if India supports Afghanistan or backs away... irrespective of that pakistan will engage in terrorism against India

No need to act so self-righteous.

The India-backed Northern Alliance were just as ruthless. The only difference is that they lost and the Taliban won.

Why is why NATO had to step in and do the job that India couldn't.

I have never understood why Pakistan has been anti northern alliance, especially massoud and favored the brutality of taliban... Just because of ethnic bigotry, because massoud was a tajik...

The only expectation for India is that Afghanistan not become a proxy state of Pakistan.Whether taliban are totally defeated or not we just need a friendly regime in Afghanistan.Look what this has done to pakistan.

Seems some wanna bees are desperate for a rude awakening... When the superpowers, the likes of Russia and America couldn't get a foothold in Afghanistan...... what chance or hope does a micro midget like India has.
You can have all the peace talks and dialogues but if the core issues are not addressed, than the reality comes baring down and the history will once again repeat it'self. !!

Ohh yes Micro midget India cant do anything and the greatest biggest gigantic Islamic republic of pakistan will show everyone how thing are done right? Please take this somewhere else ... before calling India "micro midget" look at yourself... you are no where compared to us...

Because in 80's they were a new blood/ Organization thriving for Power. they had all the support of US, Pakistan & All Arab Countries. They had money and power both on others expense.

Now scene is different......... Other then Pakistan & few from SA, no one is supporting Taliban. And they know it very well. Now there fight is not for whole power, but for survival. And in this situation, if they are getting a chance to be part of Power, then why not. they will definitely take it. Wait and see.

What role have you played in Afghanistan before ? He was comparing India with super powers like USSR and USA ... and one thing more Pakistan has been involved in Afghanistan since 3 decades ... So its highly unlikely that India can somehow reap more benefit than experienced Pakistan :P

Do you also believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy?

They were all ruthless warlords. If anything, the Taliban drastically reduced opium production in Afghanistan; the NA thrives on it. And we all know what goes along with drug trading.

1. Santa claus and tooth fairy are much more believable than the conpiracy theories that come out of Pakistan.

2. They were ruthless warlords but they were not pashtuns and if the culture in Pakistani and afghan pashtun areas ( majority taliban members) is taken into consideration and compare that with the culture in Tajikistan , iran and uzbekistan( countries that share a culture with the Northern alliance) than it is not difficult to imagine that the Afghanistan would have been better off under northern alliance .

As it is Indians support civilian govt rule in Afghanistan and not that of any warlords unlike Pakistan . India supported the NA only to uproot the Taliban rule from afghanistan

I wrote "the job that India couldn't", not "India wouldn't".

Even now, NATO can only do so much. They deposed the Taliban and installed the Indian proxy NA in power. Essentially, they provided an umbrella for India to cement its puppet regime but, after ten years, things haven't quite worked out. Hence the frustrated tantrums from the US administration.

First of all, I dont agree with the puppet business, but even for the sake of argument, I do, I dont think in last 10 years, India or Afghanistan(yes even afghanistan) is any worse off than what it was a decade back. India, inshahallah, has grown by leaps and bounds and Afghanistan is getting the international attention and support that it needs. Cant say much about the direction Pakistan as a country has taken in this 10 years.. So I really dont know who is going to be more impacted with this to continue

MY dear friend they can still have power and influence by themselves when NATO departs in 2014 ... What do you think how much area is controlled by NATO ? Sometimes analysts sarcastically say that Karzai's Govt is limited only to his own Presidential palace ... Just the realities on ground

Well we have always played a role for Peace over there. We want Afghanistan a Happy Peace full country. Its like keeping our Society Clean so that over all effect on our children is good & they grow up with healthy mind.

Where as Pakistan's role is like a Don of Slum, who wants all young's to grow as gangsters, so that he can run his dirty Business with there help.
