Any business practice worth its salt is expected to consider multiple bids before it can decide on who gets the contract. This is the operating procedure of most companies. It is a way to ensure that effort is taken to ensure that competition is encouraged for sourcing. That is exactly what India has done. Let us be honest. There is always less money in legacy projects especially if it is one off maintainance or part replacement. An oppurtunity for monopoly, always breeds inefficiency.
Russia is interested in the deals India makes with it as India is to get Russian technology. Make no mistake, Indian money was/is running a cash strapped Russia. Russian economy is driven by natural resources and defence exports. India plays an important role and Russia should look at this as a wake up call.
True, so in 8-10 years, India could likely not get all of T-50 technology. I doubt a country to part ways with important tech such as a stealth fighter. It would be a major disappointment for India as it will get the scale down T-50 tech.
