Train to Rameswaram
A 2.3 km train ride over the rough and raging Bay of Bengal to the Rameswaram temple island in South India. The railway bridge historically carried meter-gauge trains, but Indian Railways upgraded the bridge to carry broad-gauge trains in a project that finished Aug 12, 2007. The bridge constructed by the British over a 100 years ago and still in good condition is a marvel of engineering. Until recent times, the bridge formed Pamban island's only link with the Indian mainland. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims on pilgrimage to the holy Hindu shrine of Rameswaram traverse it everyday. The ride is fascinating, but scary when you look down at the choppy sea below, and wonder what could happen if a storm pushes the train off the bridge!

Jammu: World's highest rail bridge coming up!

The tallest bridge in the world is in France and is over 300 metres high. But soon a rail bridge being constructed in Jammu will stand much taller. The world's tallest rail bridge is coming up at Kauri, a hamlet in Jammu's Reasi district. When it is completed by December 2009, the bridge will rise 359 m above the Chenab River.

India indeed is a beautiful place. My uncle's went there once and we might visit India this time together, Inshahlah. And if I am not mistaken, India has the fastest growing economy too. Just hope the slums get offered more help there.

We Need more people like Nandan Nilekani. I want to thank GOI for making him the head of UID(Unique Identification Number) project and giving him a Union cabinet minister rank. Nandan also resigned as CEO & MD of Infosys to join his new assignment. I hope he made UID a great success as he made Infosys.
