India confirms deal with Russia for T-90 tanks under a contract of $2 billion

It's a pity to see IA going for foreign equipment rather than their indigenous tanks.they should've ordered more Arjun than t 90

Options are sometimes a bane. Having said that, Indian industry needs to play fair too. Today we have many pvt players who have the capability to integrate a tank all by themselves. Future is safe.

Over weight! !?? Hell no
Arjuns is 68... compare the other MBTs... its not that heavy.. but for the Indian terrain except in Thar desert... its not necessary... we need some medium weight MBT where these can be deployed against Pakistan and t72 against china that's where these tanks come
not over weight but "heavy" for it use

honestly consider your self lucky, the t-90 is a proven tank whilst the arjun is not.

.
india is massive country in size with huge econmy and huge military requirement, yet despite many TOT deals since the 1950s some how it doesnt convert them in home based technology
back in 1980s, 70s and 60s when Chinese economy was smaller than india they started developing home based indigenous equipment and were able to field them in late 80s and 90s

the problem is not the potential, india in 1960-80s have developed several different types of weapons(aircrafts, trainers), but of recent, it has a complete shift towards foreign weapons, its because the govtand amry lack will to induct these

navy of note is inducting many home based systems

This is fucking disgraceful. No wonders our neighbors mocks as cowards. If our armed forces are not ready to accept our product, even when it is deemed superior, we are cowards.

Heavy for some terrain not entirely useless.. that's why only limited number of 370 total...

Lucky! !!?? There're more weapons used by both indian and pakistan military which have never been proven... Arjun in actual tests by IA and Israeli experts out classed t90 tanks in speed/maneuvers and firepower/accuracy only problem was weight which was used by the IA to push for foreign mall so they can make some money out of it.

What about the present are the local industries just gonna create prototype and the IA is going to induct them in small numbers and the bigger piece of the pie is going to be given to foreign companies.seems to me the future is bleak unless they push for local equipment even if it not proven or not better then foreign equipment the IA should stick with the local industry develop them.

Off topic:look at Pakistan's local industry we are pushing for local manufacturing relentlessly and trying to indigenize the defence sector while our neighbors have a well developed industrial base cannot even manufacture sufficient ammunition for the IA it is such a waste of the Indian government

People need to understand that T90MS are not being procured at the cost of Arjun MBT.

Are you going to give a 68 ton MBT to our mountain strike corps ?

There is a defined requirement for medium weight tanks ( T90S/M/MS and T72M) and Heavy Weight Tanks (Arjun ). And requirement of both neither overlap each other nor their procurement.

On the topic , good.

Because OFB, HAL, and all the other public sector companies just wait for the next local assembly contract to hit there desk, they have no competition in their respective domain. Why would you think they'll do anything with those designs? The precious governments let them exist this way. HAL at the very least tried to make moves after Marut, but that was shut down by the government. But OFB controls the production of everything from bullets to rockets, pistols to tanks. This is slowly changing with aerospace and defence sector's liberalization. This should have happened decades ago.

It was a wonderful thing when OFB got off it's lazy dinosaur *** and made Dhanush when they saw DRDO working with private sector consortium, and the outside firms were partnering with the private sector as well.

It is probably the heaviest in the world. It is about 5 tons heavier than even Leopard 2, M1A2 and Challenger 2. More than 10 tons heavier than other MBTs, including T14 Armata, French Leclerc, and Chinese T99. I feel sorry for Indian bridges.
