It is a very smart move..India making it own reservoir on Brahmaputra will minimize the effect of Chinese Dams on India.

India can fill up the reservoirs in rainy season, when water level in the river is high and release this water in summers..when the river will dry up, will keep water level constant or at least enough for Indian irrigation and Domestic use and at same time producing cheap hydroelectricity.

This is something all lower riparian states(note Bangladesh and Pakistan) should consider and not just dependent on upper riparian's mercy for their water needs.

Bangladesh doesn't border China

It should be obvious ..Bangladesh is a lower riparian state...infact it is the lowest riparian in this river system.
If Chinese build a dam and keep the lion's share of water of themselves, it forces Indians to build a dam... to keep the water levels in their rivers constant..the country which will worse affected will be the lowest riparian and the one who does not build any reservoir dams.

Wong again, we didn't divert the water, so we won't have any issue with BD but if India hold the water from what we have released, you gonna get storm from BD. And the only reason we release the water is because our BD friends, the day when we see BD got nothing from your side, we can very well divert. you can not. Brahmaputra is not our only major river and many tributaries of Brahmaputra originate in India.

Besides surplus water from you dam will always flow to India.
