Diesel offers better fuel economy.. if private diesel cars are banned.. there will be lot of Jeep owners who will be really upset too.
The best solution is to gradually increase the limit for diesel engines available.
for eg.. disallow any diesel engines less than 2500 cc from now..
So the new small cars will automatically be removed.. while the trucks and commercial vehicles along with the privately owned diesel trucks can continue to ply the roads along with the existing ones.

While it is true that diesel engines are now very fuel efficient, there is simply no way that someone driving a big diesel car should be subsidised by the tax payers or by those driving smaller petrol vehicles. Even if a limit of engine capacity is added, it still remains fundamentally unfair. All that it would do would be to allow people able to afford bigger cars to continue enjoying a subsidy that they do not deserve. One other method would be to charge a fixed high monthly tax on diesel cars as a method of removing some of the distortions. While not being entirely fair - the tax being same regardless of usage, it would still go some way to plug the gaping hole in the oil pool.

difficult to implement the system for selling the same thing in multiple prices..,,

With new technology available it can be tried using smart cards OR impose high tax on diesel cars. Tax can be based on the kms run by the vehicle.

Actually even according to the oil minister the biggest benefacries of diesel subsidy is the rich guys driving around in big a$$ SUVs.

Please export some cars to pakistan then..
At least they'll be better than the crap being manufactured and sold here under the guise of automotive vehicles.
I wish Suzuki would import the Dezire from India and sell it here.. it would literally ruin Honda and Toyotas day here.

Why only Suzuki..import even Hondas & Toyotas? I don't understand why the same companies treat the 2 countries that share a common border differently.

If we don't remove the subsidy, the whole economy will be affected. The oil subsidy is approaching 2 lakh crores (Rs.200000,00,00,000/-) Allowing diesel cars to run is absolutely criminal. The government is simply being stupid. If it cannot differentiate between transport & private cars & it cannot, the easiest way is to ban private diesel cars completely. No other way of going about this.

Jaguar has a diesel engine while two wheelers all have petrol engines. Diesel is subsidised heavily while Petrol is not.

Government has unnecessarily complicated the things. The cost price of petroleum product is in Rss 25 to 30 range. Government put more than 100% duties and taxes on them. After putting these taxes they then claim to subsidize diesel; which is selling at 45 rupees per litre in India.

Our government is
In a government which employ less than 5% of Indian population the taxes indirect and direct comes to more 50%-100% in anything we consume. This is state Gundagardi I would say unnecessary extortion.

note: 35% of income tax or corporate tax on income. 12.5 to 15% VAT. Fuel charges. Central excise. Toll taxes. Bribes to inspectors/regulators.

Market dynamics.. India's market is more demanding with a much larger customer base and many more competitors.

Just yesterday, all the automative companies took an ad out on the front page of the newspaper urging the government to end import of used cars. It literally made my blood boil, new civic is going to be sold for 25 lakh rupees :hitwall:.

25 lakh rupees = 25,00,000 = 25,000 dollars (about)

It must be that the rupees has shrunk dramatically over the last few years.

i am waiting for good electric cars to come out

Tata Motors enters Indonesia, to start local assembly in 2013 - The Times of India

NEW DELHI: Homegrown auto major Tata Motors announced its foray into Indonesia with the setting up a wholly-owned Jakarta-based subsidiary and plans to launch its products in 2013.

The company will foray into both passenger and commercial vehicles through its arm PT Tata Motors Indonesia, the company said in a statement.

"Indonesia is a key market for Tata Motors, which has a wide range of products from small cars to buses in passenger vehicles and from 0.5T mini-trucks to 49T heavy trucks in commercial vehicles," it added.
Tata Motors is also evaluating options for setting up a manufacturing base in Indonesia to serve the country and the ASEAN region, it said, adding commercial launch and local assembly would happen in 2013.

Significant investments will also be planned for component localisation, the company said without elaborating.

Commenting on the development, Tata Motors Managing Director Karl Slym said: "As elsewhere in the world and as is the Tata practice, we will function in Indonesia as an Indonesian company...We will establish deeply rooted local operations and will grow in tandem with the prosperity of the country and its people".

On the company's product launch programme for the Indonesian market, Tata Motors Executive Director (Commercial Vehicles) Ravi Pisharody said: "Based on customer feedback, we will progressively introduce relevant passenger and commercial vehicles, backed by appropriate distribution and service infrastructure such that we are closest to our customers".

Tata Motors is also participating in the 20th Indonesia International Motor Show, starting in Jakarta on September 20. It will display 14 Tata passenger and commercial vehicles, being considered for introduction in Indonesia progressively.

The display includes a special green pavilion of Tata CNG vehicles, whose need is growing in Indonesia, it said.

By the time of the launch in 2013, PT Tata Motors Indonesia will have about 10 to 15 dealers nationwide, offering sales, service and spare parts.

"Over a period of three years, the company will set up a country-wide network of about 60 full-service dealers, about 100 other workshops and about 300 more spare parts retailers," the company added.

25 lakh i don't think their is much of a difference between Honda Civic price in India and Pakistan.....

In India it cost 13 lacs...........1 DLR=55.5 INR
In Pakistan it cost 25 lacs..... 1 DLR=90 PNR

Btw Hyundai Elantra and Chevy Cruze are Much better then Honda civic

Maybe next year Indonesia car sales will surpass India with 1/5 population.

Record Car Sales Defy Pessimism in Indonesia

Indonesia's Car Sales Up 30% in 1st Half of 2012.

Just NO. India is growing at 5.5+% this year and next year will grow at 6-7.5% and with a population of 1.3BILLION and the fastest growing middle class on EARTH there is no way Indonesia will catch up or overtake-an absurd claim. I know where this is coming from-TROLL.

And if we remove subsidy from diesel then also whole economy will be effected with inflation...:don't forget our whole transport system depends on diesel.....Not only that 99% of the industrial units uses diesel Generators....Farmers also use Diesel for tractors and Generators..

Not really, inflation is a concern but if the oil pool account keeps rising, the government will soon be running an out of control subsidy bill. India is not the only country in the world using diesel, there is no particular reason to believe that our way is the only way.
