India is building a new supercomputer while aiming for space in top 10.

Full capacity at 10 petaflops. Will be used for complex weather forecasting with more accuracy. Government will allow researchers from top collages and institutions to run their models and testing as well on the host computer. Power consumption is a big factor in maintaining super computers. US and China are presently competing with other for top slot with increased funding.

Good ambition, but should probably try to enter the top 100 first before getting to the top 10.

This is the latest list (November 2016): https://www.top500.org/list/2016/11/?page=1

Though I remember India had a decent presence in the top 100 (like with the Aaditya, Param, etc.) many years ago, but they have since dropped out.

As on date we have a super computer in top hundred, rank 96.

Our highest position is 2nd place. I think 1991.

Further 119, 145, 166, 251, 286, 300, 313, 316 etc onwards in top 500.

The link you provided is about a proposed Indian rail link to Kathmandu and a possible cargo train to Bangladesh.

The current top 100 list for supercomputers was in my first link.
Sorry mispost. Here is the correct link.

No, if you read the Wiki, India had a rank 96 supercomputer on the 2013 list.

The latest is the November 2016 list.
I didn't read wiki.

Really? Any source for that, I'm looking around.

For the first time ever, a developing country had pulled off such a feat in advanced computer development. Needless to say, the world was shocked at this achievement. Many were doubtful about PARAM truly being a supercomputer. That’s when Bhatkar decided to take the PARAM prototype to a major international conference and exhibition of supercomputers. Here, it was demonstrated, benchmarked and formally declared a supercomputer. A US Newspapers published the news with headline, “Denied supercomputer, Angry India does it!”

A multiprocessor machine, PARAM 8000 was benchmarked at 5 Gflops, making it the second fastest supercomputer in the world at that time. It also costed a fraction of what the legendary US machine Cray did and performed just as well. So much so, that the US company which manufactured Cray had to slash prices to woo a nation it spurned just eight years ago!

I mean any real source, like the actual official lists that I have been linking.

Yes I can believe India had the 2nd fastest supercomputer in the world in 1991 (India's economy was larger than China's in 1991 for example), the question is how did they fall completely out of the top 100 list today?

Well, any Indian that could make super computers now works for Intel or in other Silicon Valley companies. They are no longer in India.

How does that matter ?

Fact is we are now again gaining ground. That is all that matters.
