India building 4 new Nuke Plants
Nuclear Power Corp. of India Ltd. plans to raise up to 200 billion rupees ($3.73 billion) to set up four new power-generation units, an official at the state-run company said Wednesday.
It plans to set up four 700 megawatt units, two each in Haryana and Madhya Pradesh states,
S.A. Bhardwaj, a technical director at the company, told Dow Jones Newswires. However, it has yet to receive the government's approval for the projects, he added.
"We have acquired land in Haryana and will do the same in Madhya Pradesh in the next three-four months," he added.
Mr. Bhardwaj said the company plans to fund about 70% of project via debt. Nuclear Power Corp. will fund the rest along with its partners.
He said the company is in talks with Oil & Natural Gas Corp. (500312.BY) for a partnership, but declined to give details.
India plans to build 19 nuclear power plants with a total capacity of 17.4 gigawatts in the five years through March 2017,
V. Narayanasamy, a junior minister at the office of the prime minister, told lawmakers in Parliament in August.
State-owned Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Ltd. and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre will build 1.3 GW of projects, while Nuclear Power Corp. will set up the rest.
