'India blocking China's entry into SAARC to retain supremacy'

Yaar, practical hain yeh. :agree:
Pakistan trades nothing with India (almost). It only trades with Bangladesh and that too is not substantial and NOT via SAARC. It's chunk of the dealing comes from the US and China. So SAARC has nothing to offer to Pakistan and vice versa. :)
O chacha g trade wagaira hoti rehti hain but before all bilateral relations b/w two countries must exist thats how international relations work. And for that to happen disputes must be solved b/w two countries. Its not Azad Kashmir and yr kashmir relations where trade happen regardless of the situations b/w two countries since we kashmiris are separate here in pak.

Bilateral relations are different chapter all together where there are relations b/w two countries whether its trade or whatever. Since our view from before to have a regional stability so that our economic growth can be maintained in a gradual manner and for that relations b/w two countries were important and for that disputes must have been solved. Thats the point, since u kicked us out of the picture what option have u left for us? Just now i read that 4 attacks were done in yr kashmir and in Uri sector just 4 men killed yr 11 security personal. So thats horrible but what choice u give us? by snubbing us in just country to country basis talks. Then u talk abt trade and kicking pak out of SAARC etc which is just ridiculous for me. What u need to do is keep on talking no matter what the result so that peace can practically be achieved in the valley as well as b/w two countries and for that to practically happen TALKS ARE MUST!!!!

.
Stating that China is "geographically adjacent to the (South Asian) region", the article said India should back Beijing's membership in the SAARC since it has supported India's membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, (SCO), a security forum mainly comprised of China, Russia and Central Asian countries.

.
You know it as well that cheap chinese stuff is destroying local industry in whole subcontinent,,,,,be it india, pakistan,or bangladesh.
Yaar g.. welcome to free trade economy.. the Communist chinese beat the capitalism in its own game.
I know what you are saying. we fear the same thing about Indian goods too
your own goverment had draconian rules on imports to protect local industry but

that leaves YOU and ME to live with buying Lala RAM's sub standard and over priced Ice cream maker and Haji Bulbul Khan's flimsy and rubish water cooler that breaks down in few days

ALL IN THE NAME OF PROTECTING LOCAL INDUSTRY

you see our lalas' sardars , khans, and chachas loose the motivation or interest in quality control, value for money
they fleece you and me and get subsidies and exploit you and me

there has to be a check and some competitive risk .. yes agree on some restrictions on dumping by a country that enjoys the economies of scale but there is always a better way with mutual benefit.
really hard call man. I cant expect you and me to resolve this issue you highlighted.

'grand games'. Chinese must be laughing- ye dekho kaise bawle log hain, instead of going after real 'benifits', they'll do anything
But again, what exactly is wrong with having China become a member of SAARC, aside from the weak arguments over "South Asia"?

As the author in the OP pointed out, China is geographically adjacent to existing SAARC nations and therefore her inclusion would not impact geographical continuity in the SAARC economic bloc.

Coz Saarc is for south asia. Besides china never gets into anything with a healthy impact. they just want to turn anything they into their rubber stamp. You've had liong standing relationships with china- they build your roads with their labor, their trains to your country collapse and those are just the tip of the ice-berg. They have huge influence on Asian Development Bank, which is the joke bank of the world, fat chance it'll ever be as influential as the world bank. BRICS bank is a joke for the exact same reason. They aren't there with the right attitude, they are always there with the wrong reasons and wrong attitudes. This is one step we can avoid, especially when the organization is doing rather good for now. Don't kill the goose that lays the golden eggs coz you want to eat Peking Duck .

I agree with ur post on competition but we just cannot compete with a communist nation on price. Not in 100 years.
Most of the cheap goods are made in jails/under very very low wages.

Indian and pakistani goods don't have such diff in prices or quality so better chances of competition.

.
So are Bangladesh and Srilanka also opposed to the Chinese inclusion or is it just India???

.
Yes, but the Indians want to control and dominate SAARC - their objections over China's membership are due to the fact that a SAARC incorporating China will not allow Indian economic domination and control over the bloc.
There can be no economic domination and control over a body that is controlled/governed by Consensus.

Had that not been the case an Pakistan being economically insignificant would not have been able to block the SAARC proposals. Pakistan, Bhutan or Maldives can all block anything in SAARC.

Your assumption itself is flawed.

. .
I dont think Chinese membership will bear any fruit to SAARC.
SAARC is more in cultural and historical ties than economic ties.

I know this . we cant compete with cheap Chinese goods that have the ability to wipe out local industry.
but hear me out, other smaller South Asian states also have same concerns with India, look at the trade imbalance
I think it is unavoidable, that a bigger country squeezes you to its own benefit and smaller ones have to comply.

BUT, as a precondition to entry.. we can put some restrictions on Chinese imports and compel it to buy things from us as well to bridge the trade gap? all those reasons that frighten you about chine

maybe China to open more trade cities where our exporters can freely go and offer their goods that their industry can buy without the fear from Chinese Communist party goons.

yes I am talking about a Utopian situation but beyond the apparent apprehensions there are mutual benefits (more for some and less for others). but this group can really rival other economic powerhouses and can indirectly influence positively in resolving border / territory disputes too.

the definition of SAARC begs to disagree with you

as the saying goes, its economy Stupid

"Economic domination" would occur once trade was liberalized and SAARC markets opened to member States. With China as a SAARC member, open markets in SAARC would be much less likely to be dominated by a single State, India.

SAARC is more in cultural and historical ties than economic ties.
What is the tangible benefit from that kind of relationship?

If increased economic ties are not the goal, then SAARC is useless, and if increased economic ties are the goal, then the inclusion of China in SAARC makes perfect sense.

.
1) If its only about economy, then for those supporting China membership of SAARC, why don't they request Russia, US, EU, Japan, UAE and Austraila also to join SAARC.

That way its even better, as SAARC can then replace UN. LOL LOL...

2) Why don't China invite India, Pakistan, Bangladesh to join ASEAN. Surely if China is a south asian country, then we are all south east asian countries.

@Pakistanis/Bangladeshis who support China's bid to join SAARC. What say??

@Chinese members view on India/BD/PAK joining ASEAN??
