India beats China to top trading spot with Kenya

Cost cutting does not equal competitiveness..if I do a Job x for y amount of money and a second party is able to do job x for z amount of money..he is not being competitive but cost-effective. Need to correct your understanding of economic terms.

Of course cost-cutting can mean competitive... if quality of service remains same !!!
If x<z then I am competitive because I will be chosen by the client because I charged him less..
Competition is about market-share
I have been a topper in school, college ..
Economics (Macro and Micro )is my favourite subject
am an MBA and work on proposal and contracts including pricing of services
That is my credibility of economics !!!!

For example China is competitive and gets to manufacture the IPads.

The value added per Ipad by China: $1 per IPad.

The rest is all pocketed by Apple.

The source of this cometitiveness: Cost cutting and economies of scale.

True.
China is a competitive manufacturing economy..
They have mastered the art of it by keeping currency depreciated, low manufacturing cost and of course economy of scale is obviously there

dont they get hurt while importing oil..with low valuation compared to $?

China is a major exporting nation
The amount of benefit they get by keeping Reminbi dperessed through exports far benefits the hit they have to take on Oil prices.

1 dollar = 6.5 RMB roughly (if i am not wrong)

and for that it is 45 Indian Rs
Now if Oil prices fluctuate tell me who will get hit the most :-)))

Also, China is building oil reserves to buffer the oil price fluctuation..So I don;t think they are hit as much

And you know what ?
the Actual price of oil is just Rs 42 / litre

It becomes 73 becoz the rest goes to state and central govt through various customs duties and taxes

. .
You are so happy to beat China in a spot for once.
I wonder how would you feel about being beated up around the world and all the time?

Don't you agree that it is always good to have healthy competition? One can be "beaten" only if there is a choice of competition. And see here we both are giving benefit to a third country. :)

Good to know Indian got into the import/export business too though.

Thanks. It is benefiting Africans and our economies as well. Let the Dragon and Tiger help the Continent out.

The two Asian tigers have deepened their presence in Kenya with intense economic diplomacy since President Kibaki came to power in 2003. The rivalry has benefitted Kenya in terms of foreign direct investments, a wider variety of consumer goods and as new sources of technical and financial assistance.

Finally Asia is rising again.

Mr Odinga said Kenya would rely on India for quality generic drugs that can be used in public hospitals as the newly-created anti-counterfeit agency seeks to rid the country of fake drugs.

Medicine is one area where we pioneer. Our medicines are known for their cost to quality ratio. We must invest in health industry of Kenya. Tie up with their largest drug manufacturers and enable development of safe medicine for millions of African kids. That way they will have a medical system that they can afford and not risk the danger of fake drugs and death.
