Srinagar, August 13 (KMS): In occupied Kashmir, the puppet authorities, after imposing stringent restrictions on the movement of people and Hurriyet leaders, have enforced e-curfew to stop masses from sharing and getting information about the latest situation of the territory.
The authorities have intensified internet blockade in the territory, this time blocking high speed internet services to major newspapers in Srinagar.
While other internet services like GPRS, 3G and 4G are already off in the Valley for the last over a month, since the start of the ongoing Kashmir Intifada after the extra-judicial murder of mujahid commander, Burhan Wani, on July 8, in the latest the high-speed services provided by private telecom companies has been snapped.
Major media houses banking on high-speed internet facility given by a private company CNS Infotel Services Pvt Ltd Srinagar have got affected.
A functionary at CNS in an interview said that it was done on the instructions of the puppet administration adding that the ban might continue till August 15 ( India’s Independence Day). He said that it had been blocked to all customers including some hospitals.
Blocking of internet will adversely affect the publishing of newspapers that were earlier banned by the occupation authorities in mid July, this year.
After a few days’ respite for post-paid connections of mobile phones, the authorities have again blocked the mobile and internet services, causing immense inconvenience to thousands of subscribers.
The authorities had snapped mobile internet facility in entire Kashmir on July 9, a day after Burhan’s killing. While the postpaid services of private companies were restored on July 26, the incoming call facility on prepaid numbers was restored a day later. However, the outgoing facility on prepaid numbers continues to remain barred. Mobile internet also continues to remain snapped for the 36th straight day, today.
The authorities also raided the printing presses of various newspaper organizations and seized their printed copies on Thursday.
