India, Asia's 4th most corrupt nation

Corruption has gripped countries across the world. India is no execption. Many bribery and corruption scandals have tarnished India's image over the years. Across Asia, several countries still see rampant corruption at all levels exposing the nexus between political parties and corporate houses.

India, with a score* of 7.21 on the corruption index, is the fourth most corrupt nation in Asia, according to a survey by the Political and Economic Risk Consultancy (PERC).

Companies have cited excessive regulation and high levels of corruption as a major constraint to doing business in India. Corruption takes the form of bribery, kickbacks from deals and tax evasion in India. It continues to be a major concern, especially in government procurement of telecommunications, power, and defence deals, the study states.

No other country from the subcontinent features in the List.

Seriously, I think this really is a major issue to be tackled in India. Corruption really is one of out most serious problems, unless it's cured all the development money will keep leacking out.

Not only on Asia's top 10 list, Indonesia has also been categorized as the number 5 of the 96 most corrupt nations in the world. In the past two years, Indonesia has lost more than $2bn due to corruption.

Former president Suharto, as the most corrupt political leader in the world in the past 20 years, has ruled this country with an iron fist for more than three decades. All the leading candidates have made fighting corruption a central theme of their campaigns but none have been clear on how they will solve the problem.

The Problem of corruption has been around for a long time in Thailand and its roots are deep in the culture - While huge amounts of money will be lost during the implementation of projects due to corruption, more will be lost while trying to fight against it and stop it.

Thailand’s ex-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has used very rough methods to control the media, which should be one of the most powerful watchdogs against corruption.

Since the government could not control its tough citizens, it granted them official titles to sustain the fiction of central control. Local government by gangsters, vastly preferable in the eyes of the Taiwanese to no government at all. Here we have local "muscle" being used to gain access to political and economic spoils which are used to legitimize community standing.

you simply cannot run a country with a fake system. how long can you fool the people with fake democracy? indians are bound to realize they are living in an illusion. corruption in india is also so pervasive and is visible in every level of government that it has become the norm. poverty in india is also not a big deal, where millions are starving at the level of africans the corrupt government is spending all the money on military weapons. what a miserable country.
