India and UNSC permanent seat

Wish you would actually read the sources people put up. America is the one with the official stance that India should not get veto power.

Ya, I agree America is the biggest looser if more members with veto powers are added and traditionally they have been against it..but from the looks of it..it looks like they are coming around to new concept of a multipolar world..preparing themselves for the day..when they are no longer the sole superpower.

Bull$hit this new you posted is regarding, India getting a non permanent seat (which is always without veto power) at UNSC this year, after a self imposed restriction(not contesting for this seat for last 20yrs).

lol Permanent seats on the UNSC has always been without veto power??

America is still the sole superpower so lets hold off the power delusions for a few more decades shall we?

Ha, I knew it. India will get to UNSC without Veto power. lol

Like a modern emperor of Japan, or Queen of UK. Without any actual power. lol again :partay:

But this is the first step for India. Maybe in 10-15 years they will get Veto power.

India will get veto power when it is a major geo politic player. its that simple.

As of today India cannot influence nations in South America, Africa, EU basically beyond its neighborhood like the Americans and to a smaller extend china could. For all the talk about India economical prowess...India doesn't influence the world's economy in the way US and China does.

India is not even a marginal factor with the Iranian issue and Iran is right next door.

This is the true reality that India needs to understand. When you deserve it..it will come. The UNSC is where power is being played...its not about which country is the most benevolent or the most liked by the world at large. The UNSC where geopolitical chess is being played by basically China and the US. It use to the USSR and the US. but for the near future and foreseeable future it will be where China and the US do battle without guns. And as China power grows the UN in will be divided into 3 camps... one siding with the US, the other with china...and if you're smart you be in the 3rd camp to play them off against each other

Sure it will become a multi-polar world...but even in this world there will be 1 or 2 dominant players

Questions.

1. 3rd party play US and China?? I dont think so!

2. Who will be in China's camp? Who will be in US camp?

If India join US camp, trust me. India will NEVER get Veto power, because China will veto India. Vice versa!

Japan, Brizl, Germany none will become UNSC power with veto as long as they side with China or US!!

But if they dont join the camp, then their will never get veto power. Because you will need full support from the P5!! If one of the P5 veto again you. Then your hope of becoming UNSC with veto power is SHATTERED!

India permanent member of UNSC by 2012 end : Hardeep Puri

December 2012, that's the deadline India has set for itself to become a permanent UNSC member. India's Ambassador to the United Nations Hardeep Puri told Headlines Today on Friday it's only a matter of time before China backs India's bid.

Saying China may have certain reservations, Puri maintained "positions are not cast in stones", and "by 2012 end" India will become a permanent member of the UNSC.

"India entered the UN after 19 years, and we have no intentions of leaving," Puri told Executive Editor Rahul Kanwal in an exclusive interview.

In fact, Puri told Headlines Today, the end of 2012 was an "outer limit". India can make it to the UNSC "much earlier".

Puri says he doesn't see any problem on the Chinese front, when it comes to the UNSC reform.

"It is in China's interest to have India as the permanent member at the UNSC. There is high degree of convergence between the two countries. Our voting records are similar, when it comes to resolutions," Puri said.

Maintaining "I have the full support of the Ministry of External Affairs", Puri said India is preparing final documents that will set the ball rolling for India's place at the high table.

"We are in the last lap of the race. We need 228 votes at the UN. We are almost there," Puri told Rahul Kanwal.

Puri said the world is watching India, which should not give out any negative signals.

"I don't see any intermediary solutions. You have only two categories: permanent or non-permanent memberships," he said.

Puri said the G-4 countries (Brazil, Japan, Germany and India) have "credentials" and have "demonstrated" their responsibility to be reckoned for the UN reform.

"Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is extremely hopeful. He has made it a priority," Puri said, adding, "we have the political backing".

Responding to a question on the UN's anti-terror mechanism, Puri said there has been a "paradigm shift" in how the world body sees the menace.

"The issue (of terror) was earlier looked at in terms of definition etc. Now any act of terror will not be tolerated at any cost by the member countries," the envoy said.

If "any country chooses" to break the rule, it will do so at its own peril, Puri said, without naming Pakistan.

the Chinese are not less intelligent like you, Mr. Ambassador.

You are dagging around in China's backyard, setting up oil plan with Vietnam in Chinese water, dragging Myanmar away from China, deploying troop in Arunachal, which China claim its their land, etc.

How could China back such a "friend"? No way. This guy is such amusement.

very difficult to get....china,japan will be against us

China I understand but why Japan? they are candidates themselves why should they oppose? they should only present themselves as better alternatives rather than opposing India?

Hahaha... game over for your UNSC bid.
