India and tthe Raffalle : Anatomy of a Bad Deal

.
The logic in that article is lifted straight out of Zaid Hamid's speeches... And I stopped reading from here "The Eurofighter is a full 1 tonne lighter than the Rafale". Poor logic, wrong facts, the guy should be shot!

I started laughing way earlier, when he claimed that initially Mirage 2000, Gripen NG and F16 E/F with AESA competed, that alone shows that this "researcher" :D has no idea of what he is talking about. Also great is the cost comparison, he compared Rafales total costs, with the EF development costs that the UK paid, ignoring that Germany, Italy and Spain paid similar ammounts of money for the development as well! :disagree:

The biggest BS about MMRCA that I've ever read and I read much over the years!

This author's report is very biased, not neutral, as though he has an agenda.

In my humble opinion the Rafale is a great jet, and all machines have their pros and cons but this guy has just concentrated on all the negatives, hence I have doubts about his professionalism, though his English writing style is very readable.

As a neutral person even I can see that a professional organisation like the IAF is fully equipped and trained to select it's own tools, much more than a person in a stuffy office behind a desk finding his sources from the internet...

Well a deal is a deal and it is too late to worry about the contract now. it is over and done with.

Just because some critters come crawling out of some hole and look for some lacunae does'nt change anything. This aircraft was selected by a technical process of down-selection that was carried out by IAF personnel using technical parameters. So unless one assumes that all Air-Force pilots are just a bunch of brainless jocks who are only good for posing in their Ray-Ban Aviator glasses, there is nothing to be said. The final run-off between the finalists-the EF and the Rafale had the 'bean-counters' (aka Accountants) in the picture to make the final choice.

The present position is just this: a choice has been frozen, but the contract has not been signed. That will be a legal document containing the fine-print of who will do what and when; and who will be liable and to what extent if something is not done etc.
That involves the Legal and Administrative Honchos who are doing that right now. When their due diligence is completed, then the Document will be signed, sealed and delivered.
Contractual matters are not some child's play that can be explained away just like that.

Hang on this is the same AF that took the not so humble SU30 and turned it into the formidable SU30MKI, ie the same people that had the intelligence to find and recognise a superbly designed machine that is the SU30 but with certain flaws and through research and hard work installed Israeli and other avionics that make it one of the top fighters in it's class in the world and these same people would suddenly go blind when they were evaluating the MMCRA candidates!!

The author continues to mention that the Rafale lost competitions without giving one shred of evidence! and the fact that the French have not sold these to any other airforce is a big advantage for the IAF in other words the PAF will have very little information on this jet.

So I fail to understand the point of this report and AK Anthony by all accounts is a very clean minister something both PK and India cannot have enough of.

French equipment is expensive but are very well designed and made. This is the reason both countries have French aircraft and French subs. Even the 'old' Mirages of the PAF are deemed excellent aircraft and the Mirage 2000 of the IAF is liked and has given good account of itself.

The fact is quality is expensive, ask the US about the F35 and F22, yep good aircraft but also need very deep pockets. The Rafale is no exception neither the Chinese or the PAF have anything as good yet.

The Typhoon is hands down a comparable fighter with Rafale........A deal with Typhoon would give our domestic industry a much needed boost which I was hoping for to eventually wean away us away from our disastrous dependence of foreign weapons........Its a no brainer but the French are a crafty lot......just like many Indian politicos....who by the way wont even pass any Lok Pal resolutions.....so fuk them..
