There is every chance that a border face-off might happen again but China is looking to engage India in a way it has not done before – looking at New Delhi as an important neighbour and ally, possibly in the league of Moscow.

The next decade will be crucial for China-India relation with the new dispensation in Beijing attempting to strike a new strategic balance with New Delhi.Balance will be an important verb in the new mould of relation that China and India are rattempting to create.

“… in the coming ten years, Chinese leaders would make efforts to build up an exemplary ‘New Type of Major Power Relations’ Between China and India, live with differences, seek common development via deepened cooperation, make expanded cooperation reduce the weight of differences in the bilateral relations,” Professor Hu Shisheng, director of the South Asian and South East Asian studies at the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, a Chinese government think-tank, told HT

He indicated that mutual gains between the countries would outweigh differences. “In the future, any existent bilateral differences would not have that capacity and energy to derail the development of Sino-India relations in right direction,” Hu told HT over email.

But Beijing’s new fledgling relation with New Delhi will not come at the cost of its relationship with Islamabad. “China follows a parallel diplomacy in dealing with India and Pakistan. That is to say, developing Sino-India relations will not (be) at the cost of Sino-Pak relations, and vice versa,” Hu said.

Clearly, it will take all of Beijing’s deep if opaque diplomatic skills to balance Islamabad and New Delhi.

“That Chinese new leadership pay much more importance sincerely upon its strategic relations with big neighbors while pay much importance upon its relations with its neighbors in general. As way, India is globally important strategic partner to China,” Hu said.

“Yes, in the coming ten years, Chinese leaders will focus mainly on its peripheral regions, especially (to) maintain stability with major neighbors like India, Russia and ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations). Or at least treat equally its relations both with the US and with its neighbors,” Hu said. The border issue between China and India will remain, he said.

“Not very likely,” Hu said when asked whether the border question will be resolved soon.

“But may be in the coming ten years, (the two will) make some progress in LAC (Line of Actual Control),” he said.

Hu added that China and India should be sensitive to each others’ security concerns.

“..be sensitive enough to each others’ security concerns, and publicly clear any misgivings, use mechanism to make each other understand each other's purposes in a correct way…The more mutual understanding and communication, the less misjudgment and the less need to strategically seek alliance with others,” Hu said.

there isn't going to be any bhai-bhai relationship anyways between India n China after the recent LAC debacle.

Future better trade partners is all i can hope for but no bhai-bhai relationship any time soon...:)

.
Why the need for a bhai - bhai relationship. they are comfortable where they are and so are we . a relationship on mutual respect and considerations is the most we can hope for.

. . .
Long way to go.... I dont think both country is looking at Bhai bhai thing.... We all know what happened when we did look at each other that way.....

Both country need to understand each other's worries and start working on gaining confidence ..... As long as they both are connected thru strong economic relation..... There is going to be more trust and slowly can become bhai bhai without announcing publicly.....

Come one Pakistan is not even in the equation. We are talking about mutual interests of these 2 nations. This is matter of hundreds of billions of $$$$$$. Who is Pakistan in all this??

China now has money to invest and Chinese markets are not the best place to invest due to the massive economic bubble they already have there. They know Indian big ticket projects like Dmic, Dedicated freight corridor are the place to invest and win contracts for Chinese companies. Indians don't discriminate btw China and any other country when it comes to business. Its time for Boom and China must take advantage of it.
