India, a promising RMG destination

So yur govt will rather keep them unemployed and dalit than having a job for little less pay. Thats not a smart policy i suppose. Saying that you have your own cotton which could makeup of little extra salary that you pay for your worker. The compliant factories here pays far more money than the minimum salary fixed by govt.

No thing is private sector won't find it lucrative and competitive enough to invest in RMG given the higher labour cost as compared to BD. A semi government co operative set up might be the best bet, so that workers get their fair share, and with local cotton we might just be able to compete with BD as far as costs are concerned.

That is the point what you are missing here. If you expect TATA to invest in RMG factories than you are in a day dream. They will not. But people like you certainly will. Its the enterpreneurship attitude of Bangladeshis who had no business experience whatsover made this to happen.

RMG industry works best in the SME scale of operations. Tatas and Ambanis will not enter this field, its not worth their while.
In India there is a giant textile group called 'Bombay Dyeing' which has a RMG business. The garments are nearly completely made by SMEs for them while they make some million metres of fabric which are turned into garments.

Is your hurt burning... do not worry soon your 20 billion worth of home grown market will be in our dominance...

This is just the beginning... soon we will start taking over one after another Indian companies once this power crisis is resolved using LDC and other benefit that bangladesh has.

If you are capable of taking over a 20 Billion Dollar industry, you will not be a LDC anymore. :coffee:

And here is a person who thinks his country will be a LDC permanently.

Bangladesh RMG export to India is quite low compared to their overall business. But it makes sense as they do contract manufacturing for western brands where as they sell to lowend custemers in India. So unless some big indian brands outsource to bangladeshi companies, they wont be able to capture bigger pie by value(They may be able to increase the volume).

Guys there is no big deal about it. Bangladesh has become top exporter of RMG, Why? If you see most of its exports are western countries where Bangladesh RMG are given trade incentives. Even pakistan have tremendous potential to overtake bangladesh which produces cotton, has thread mills and skilled man powers but due to internal destabilization and western government not providing any trade benefits its competing with countries like china & india who are major players in RMG. If you have any one heard of Tirupur in south of tamil nadu, its a major export base. India exports RMG in billions, if india is also given the trade benefit like LDC it will kill the market of others. We too have cheap labour, raw material, power.

Its basically an western countries strategy they simply source their needs from where its cheaper. Consider this will US give trade benefits on wheat to LDC countries, NO because it itself a major producer.

today is bangladesh, tomorrow it will be a different country. If you are not playing to their tunes and if you are not competitive you will be bunked and other markets will be looked after. Its simple game of interest & benefits.

India, China, Pakistan like countries will always remain a major player in textile or RMG industry as they are biggest producer of cotton, have skilled man power, infrastructure everything.

India has to grow above the value chain, it has focus more providing its citizens in providing more valuable and quality technical education where their skills are more required and valuable and earn decently.

I know the RMG business, its the end seller who makes the more out of it, then the one who manufactures it.
