I agree, except in states like UP, Bihar and to some extent in Mumbai...the rest of India doesn't see much gun violence or gangster culture which doesn't necessitate regular state police to be on the top of their armed game. Most police would've never fired a bullet during their service after completion of training


While intel definitely plays a crucial role, the SOP must be changed and police should start using SWAT teams for which they're specifically trained for. What is the point of developing something from scratch, training for years along with procurement of weaponry and gear when you don't use em during the time of need. Prior to 26/11, no state police had SWAT teams or Anti-Terrorist squads. Even the NSG had a single hub in Manesar from which they had to drive to Delhi and board a plane to Mumbai. Things have changed there after with NSG forming 5 major hubs across India and MARCOS teams being deployed in all major naval hubs with almost all state police forming a counter-terror or SWAT team.

In this case, intel has already been provided which is why 50 police entered into the ambush but police are usually not known to wear combat gear nor consistent training to encounter active-shooter scenario, that too encountering a number of gangsters who are armed to the teeth


These SWAT teams could only be deployed if the attack is in a major city where they're stationed. If it's a tier-II/III city...local police will be screwed pretty bad. But this particular case is entirely different and the casualties are due to poor planning, the police went in with the intention of arresting him but walked straight into an ambush

Even in city like Mumbai or Pune or Bangaluru if intelligence failure has taken place and terrorists have managed to reach a railway station or bus stand or some other public place the first 5 minutes will be crucial if they are carrying out a Gun attack and if you have some well trained Policeman deployed with good Assault Rifles in that place or close to it that could make a big difference. Because even in best case scenario SWAT won't reach the spot in less than 20 minutes and by that time damage will be done.

I agree, the police deployed in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata should be trained in armed combat and urban warfare to some extent but current police system is more concentrated in dealing with local civilian and criminal cases over training for anticipated terrorist attacks. They kinda wanted to leave it to the central govt in that regard

I nominate Vikas Dubey for the next Prime Minister of India.
