Since 1947, India has stood as a beacon for the world, as a resilient democracy in the face of terror, said US Secretary of State John Kerry.
Commemorating the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ahead of India’s 69th Independence Day, US Secretary of State John Kerry has said India has stood as a beacon for the world.
“Since 1947, India has stood as a beacon for the world, as an economic power that prides innovation, as a resilient democracy in the face of terror and as a strategic power that upholds international norms,” Mr. Kerry said in his Independence Day message on behalf of US President Barack Obama.
“As the world’s largest democracies, the US and India stand side by side in defending and promoting the freedoms and values we hold,” he said. “As was highlighted during President Obama’s visit for India’s Republic Day in January, the US takes pride in our indispensable partnership with India, a friendship built on our shared democratic values, the entrepreneurial spirit of our people, and our shared interests,” Mr. Kerry said.
Sending best wishes to the people of India on the occasion of Independence Day, Mr.Kerry said, “Today we commemorate the legacy of India’s freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel, whose message of nonviolence established a united, inclusive republic and served to inspire leaders from around the globe.”
Mr.Kerry, who has made several trips to India, said on his many visits over the years that he never cease to be amazed by India’s rich national identity. “From the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas to the jungles of the Western Ghats, India is a stunningly beautiful landscape with rich cultures, histories and peoples united under one nation,” Mr. Kerry added.

Vladimir Putin has sent his greetings on the occasion of India's Independence Day to President
Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In his telegram, he praised India's "impressive success in social, economic, scientific, technological and humanitarian spheres. High is your country's prestige in the international arena".
He said Russian-Indian relations are based on long-standing traditions of friendship and mutual respect and have attained the level of special and privileged strategic partnership.
Putin said Russia attaches great importance to the launch of procedure for India's joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, "which opens up new vistas for broader and productive cooperation between our nations".
He recalled his meetings with Modi in Ufa, Russia, in early July and in New Delhi in last December.
"It is with warm feelings that I recall our meetings in Russia and India, substantive and constructive negotiations. I am confident that by joint efforts we will ensure further growth of the whole gamut of bilateral ties and partnership interaction in addressing the burning issues of regional and global agenda. This meets the fundamental interests of our nations and goes in line with providing international stability and security", he said, according to the Russian embassy here.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the people of the state had refused to accept the two-nation theory propounded by Pakistan founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah and went with the “big country” India in 1947.
“I want to say that the two-nation theory of Mohammad Ali Jinnah was not adopted by the people of Jammu and Kashmir even before Independence. We had our own stand which was reflected in the 1938 convention at Sopore in which Muslim Conference was converted into National Conference,” he said.
