That slash is increased now, but still could not match what the rates were in 2014/2015.
Dollar at that time wasn't 150, diesel wasn't at 126 plus, utilities' cost wasn't this high, inflation wasn't this high. Salaried class mostly knew that this reduction is temporary and would be reversed but what they didn't know was that an idiot would come and destabilize an already fragile economy by his constant whining and crying ....... plus experiments.
I was paying more IT on my salary per month in 2014-2016 on lesser salaries.
In 2017 the PMLN govt slashed IT rates as it was last year just to get votes in 2018.
That slash is increased now, but still could not match what the rates were in 2014/2015.
and how is the law and order system there? is the quality of our education and health facilities similar to theirs? our infrastructure is world class as well, I believe?Having said that, the tax rates are very reasonable. In the UK the base rate is 20% of salary, plus an additional 12% specifically for healthcare and pensions.
On top of that we pay duty in cigarettes, alcohol, fuel. We also pay sales tax on everything at 20% apart from on kids clothes, books and motorcycle helmets.

I am man enough to admit I belong to the zero slab
Oh wait :-( @RealNapster @PakSword @Moonlight @I.R.A
For the last 40 years Pakistan has elected corrupt people
Now Pakistan has a government which claims not to be corrupt, lets give it five years and see what it does with the tax money during that time.
How many of those 40 years were periods of dictatorships? Why absolve the Army of its role in destroying Pakistan just like the politicians?
This I agree with. The present setup must be given its full term in office to deliver the results it promised to the nation.
I didn't absolve them. Nobody had a choice about the dictators, people chose the politicians.
then recover money from those a*holes, instead of burdening the ones already paying taxes. This is not the old joke about the chicken or the egg - what came first?
It's very straight forward, first you pay your taxes, then that money is spent to improve facilities. For the last 40 years Pakistan has elected corrupt people, so shouldn't be surprised that they took your taxes and built villas and castles instead of building facilities for the people. Now Pakistan has a government which claims not to be corrupt, lets give it five years and see what it does with the tax money during that time.
Easier said than done. Until the money is recovered, if it is ever recovered at all, the country still needs to run, so the people inside the country need to foot the bill to run it.then recover money from those a*holes, instead of burdening the ones already paying taxes.
People have to realise that nothing is happening in Pakistan that doesn't happen everywhere else in the world too. If you want a developed nation, you have to foot the bill for it, perhaps even more so whilst it's developing.
Firstly taxes have to come from somewhere. If the country does not have many businesses who don't make much profits, then there is only so much you can tax them. In this budget businesses are also being taxed. The salaried class are stuck, so they have to pay taxes.
The salaried class i do feel for, i am a part of the same class, and we're the only people who can't escape paying taxes. Everyone else can swindle, we can't. But that doesn't mean we should stop paying taxes too, rather the system should make it harder for everyone else to swindle. Criticism of the lack of growth in the tax net is legitimate and should continue until the tax net widens. There are plenty of people with more means than salaried people who are escaping paying taxes.
Having said that, the tax rates are very reasonable. In the UK the base rate is 20% of salary, plus an additional 12% specifically for healthcare and pensions.
On top of that we pay duty in cigarettes, alcohol, fuel. We also pay sales tax on everything at 20% apart from on kids clothes, books and motorcycle helmets.
The real economic challenge for this government is to increase the tax net and reduce indirect taxation, like sales tax on essential items, or taxes on energy and fuel. Income tax is not unfair, the indirect taxes on essentials are unfair. Those have to be paid regardless of whether you can afford to or not.
