Historic idol - The Hindu

A panchaloha idol of Srimedha Dakshina Murthy Swamy was allegedly stolen from a temple in the historic Venkatagiri town in Nellore district here on Saturday morning.

The idol was weighing nearly 95 kg with a high estimated value in the international market. It was stolen from the Kasi Viswanath Swamy temple in the town. The Venkatagiri rulers were stated to have got the idol made about 300 years ago.

Sources said the miscreants might have entered the temple in the early hours through the backdoor and escaped with the idol. Upon seeing the doors of the temple unlocked and something wrong happened, the temple priest informed the Venkatagiri Rajah’s descendant Saikrishna Yachendra.

Another ISIS, another era, same targets.

This is a good symbol of people coming to terms with their past. Are they going on a rampage to avenge this? No. Truth is necessary and in the long run - harmless.
