Wow this has never happened before, with this the Indo-French relationship will take a quantum leap into the future.

France is always a friendly nation of India .It was the only western nation that supports us during those difficult times of Nuke tests.
Welcome French military .
Understandable. When French were developing their nukes, US/UK weren't too happy about that, either.

Usually the practise(and selection) for RD parade begins as early November. I'm assuming this must have been planned earlier.
This was long overdue since our soldiers had already participated in the 14th July military parade way back in 2009. It's time the French joined us in our parade.

Btw 14th July military parade is the oldest regular military parade in the world. @Vauban

FYI- this year RD parade will be short and crisp- 90mins instead of regular 2 hours.

A big scope for cooperation in aerospace , shipbuilding , missile systems and also Armoured vehicles is there. This should be worked upon.

But I wish with Rafale deal, they also confirm the VL MICA deal. This would mean our Karmorta class Corvettes can get SAMs more quickly.

New Delhi: For the first time in the history of India, contingent of any foreign country's army will take part in this year's Republic Day Parade . Reports say that a strong contingent of French Army, which is already in India for a joint military exercise, will take part in the parade along with Indian Armed forces.

This year French President Francois Hollande will be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations. His visit is expected to further strengthen the robust strategic partnership between the two countries.

This will be the fifth time that a French leader will be a Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations — the maximum number from any country so far. Earlier leaders from that country had presided in 1976, 1980, 1998 and 2008.

Bhutan has presided four times so far in 1954, 1984, 2005 and 2013. Significantly, France was the first country with which India established a Strategic Partnership in 1998 after New Delhi did nuclear tests.

France is also the first country with which India entered into a civil nuclear energy cooperation in 2008 after obtaining the NSG waiver.

That's pretty unexpected news.

It is clear that France and India are trying to forge a more strategic relationship, hopefully something tangible can be produced from both sides.

Clearly pointing to more than "just" 36 off the shelf Rafales now ;)
