Had it attacked, the Soviets would have joined the fight inadvertently.
No they wouldn't.
USA never had any intention of joining the fight, as much as they made verbal statements, nothing much really happened (remember they were all tied up in Vietnam)..... I am actually surprised at this 'misinformation' that most Indians seem to harbor, that USA supported Pakistan and Soviet Union thus sent it's navy and they were ready for a nuclear war over India-Pakistan conflict.
Strangely, all this talk has come from India. I have rarely read about it anything in Pakistan, instead if there is anything mentioned in Pakistani text or by Pakistanis, it is their displeasure at USA for refusing to provide material support rather than verbal statements.
It is possible that a USA SSBN/SSN was on regular patrol, listening to radio intercepts and gathering intelligence to provide to the USA, but that doesn't mean that they were engaging in war.
Their Nuclear submarines main mission during peace time is recon and more recon.
A foxtrot submarine was a very noisy machine even by the standards of the day. And it readying it's torpedo tubes (as the writer mentions) would definitely have invited response from the so alleged American or any other Western Nuclear submarine. Just like you make out a propulsion system on the sonar, you can make out when the tubes are being loaded, flooded and doors opening.
So to me, this is another feel good piece of fiction from history.
Lol .This is not about damage or hatred.
If you have solid proof to dissect that so called fake story then I would agree with you.
It has excerpts of witness and victims. Now they know very well about their experiences than any outsiders including you and me.
Perhaps PNS Hangor did that or these mystery sub mightdid that .Who knows
But the presence of Royal Navy and USN in this region was a fact .
Umm, their boats are on Patrol all over the world and given the importance of the region, there is a good chance that a US SSBN/SSN would be lurking in the waters around India/Pakistan/Iran
