In 14 Countries, Most People Had Poor Opinion On China: Pew Research Survey

More deflection and projection. China is not improving yoy, Chinese are getting good at faking data every year. I don't know if emitting 5 times more CO2 and more Freeons is not as bad, wonder what is bad according to you.

Worlds largest polluter vs most polluted places is two things. Nice try though.
You can deny everything, but blue sky and clean air is what I m experiencing and verified by different international agencies, denial is the only way that your Indians can seek some comfort I guess.

US study: China ‘winning’ war on pollution
‘We don’t have a historical example of a country achieving such rapid reductions.’

China appears to be “winning” its war on air pollution, making so much progress that life expectancy could rise by more than two years, a US study had found.

The Chinese government has been waging a battle to clear its skies of smog that has cut life expectancy in some regions and prompted its citizens to buy masks and air purifiers to protect themselves during peak pollution days.

Report findings
The University of Chicago says in its study released Monday that while the world’s biggest polluter faces a long road to reach national and international air quality standards, the results “suggest the country is winning its war on pollution”.

Based on daily data from more than 200 monitors across China from 2013 to 2017, the analysis found that cities have cut levels of PM 2.5 – the tiny airborne particles considered most harmful to health – by an average of 32 percent in just four years.

If sustained, such reductions would increase the life expectancy of the average Chinese citizen by 2.4 years relative to 2013. PM 2.5 can play a role in heart disease, stroke, and lung ailments such as emphysema and cancer.

Another study published by the university last year had found that air pollution in northern China had cut life expectancy by three years compared with the south of the country, but the new findings are encouraging.

Rapid improvement

“We don’t have a historical example of a country achieving such rapid reductions in air pollution. It’s remarkable,” Michael Greenstone the economist and director of the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago who conducted the studies, told AFP Tuesday.

By contrast, it took the US a dozen years and a severe recession to attain similar improvements in air quality after it enacted its 1970 Clean Air Act, he noted.

“What these last four years have demonstrated quite loudly is that things can change and they can change rapidly – it just requires political will,” he said.

Public pressure
As public discontent mounted over the country’s choking smog, China’s ruling Communist Party made clean air a priority.

In 2013, it launched an ambitious air pollution action plan that sought to slash PM 2.5 levels in key regions such as the northern Beijing-Hebei-Tianjin area and the Yangtze River Delta by up to a quarter.

In 2014, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang declared “war” on pollution.

Since then, teams of inspectors have been deployed across major cities in north China to ensure compliance with pollution standards.

Highlighting the challenge facing the country, Beijing’s skies were a dismal grey on Tuesday, as PM 2.5 levels soared to 270 micrograms per cubic cubic metre, more than 10 times the maximum recommended by the World Health Organization for a 24-hour period.

Beijing cut PM 2.5 levels by 35 percent between 2013 and 2017, increasing lifespans of its 20 million residents by 3.3 years, the study found. Baoding, China’s most polluted city as of 2015, cut pollution by 38 percent, adding 4.5 years of life.

“China’s not held up as a democratic regime, and yet here we have a clear example of the public demanding something and the government delivering it,” said Greenstone.

No-coal zones
While the capital and other places have made progress, the war on smog has come with social costs.

To clear the skies, authorities ordered thousands of polluting factories to leave urban centres, displacing hundreds of thousands of migrants.

They also designated “no-coal zones” that pushed more than three million households in the region around Beijing to abruptly switch over to gas or electric heating, often removing coal boilers before new systems were functional.

In December, schools in Hebei province made headlines after pupils suffered frostbite from attending class outside. Delays to installations of the new electric heating systems meant it was slightly warmer in the weak winter sunshine than in the frigid classrooms.

Greenstone said he hoped to see China move towards more market-based environmental regulations. He recommended measures such as setting up cap-and-trade markets for particulates and beefing up pollution taxes.

From around 1980's to 2008. It's the west that pushed China into WTO, gave favorable trade deals, collaborations at different levels.

The west created this Frankenstein lol.

The West has always been against China since 1949. They have done everything to topple the CPC and install a pro-Western puppet government in China. The West, more specifically the Anglo world, want a China subservient to them and for Western corporations to profit from the Chinese market. They don’t want Chinese companies to compete with their Western companies. They just want Chinese people to just buy Western brands forever.

West opened up to the whole world but it was China that used its advantages the best. CPC has done a magnificent job in using technology-for-market deals, joint ventures, subsidies, protecting certain sectors like internet and using the vast labour resources to grow at 10% for decades and develop Chinese industry, trade, technology, brands. All the while still maintaining an independent foreign policy.

China is the one country the West has always feared. As long as China was kept down, Western dominance will go on. China is the only country with the size, governance, work ethic, patience, independence that can rival the most powerful Western power.

While you Indians were happyily worshiping your Anglo masters, China developed itself into the power it is today. China joined the WTO in 2001 and became an industrial and trading giant. India joined the WTO in 1995 and you’re still irrelevant.

Until you escape your white worshiping mentality, India will never be anything but a Western side piece.

That's like saying my neighborhood is clean, so it's safe in China. Various international agencies have not given a clean chit for China, China is still the largest emitter of CO2, by 2034, if we don't reduce CO2 emission by 1%, we will reach a point of no return with increasing wild fires and global temperatures. Leading to mass extinction. Usually, the country that brings trouble to the world is none other than China. Be it corona or pollution.

US used to be the biggest polluter for decades when it first industrialized, it took them long time to bring it down, China , as the world biggest indutrial nation, already did wonders to reduce the pollution so fast in such a short span of time. India doesn't have much industries, how come it is so polluted?

China now is undisputed global leader in clean energy development.

Lol! Is that the new excuse? The US didn't reduce much of their industrial pollution it's that China toppled the US in terms of carbon emission. India has a growing emission problem too, but we are not building more coal power plants in and around our areas. Unlike China, who contribute the largest to "Project global extinction".

Be it CO2, Freeons that threaten the Ozone layer, these CFCs are banned. All the countries around the world complied to such bans. Except for China who secretly kept their industry going. Tell me, who is the threat to the world, is it India or China?

Chinese paid propaganda is nothing new. That works on gullible.

Beijing is buying up media outlets and training scores of foreign journalists to ‘tell China’s story well

China’s green efforts hit by fake data and corruption among the grass roots

  • Local officials have devised creative ways to cover up their lack of action on tackling pollution
  • Falsified monitoring information risks directing clean-up efforts away from where they are needed most

Chinese strategy, fake everything, and make good propaganda.

US embassy and various international agencies also monitor the air quality in Beijing and China, you are just in denial mode, visit Chinese cities and Indian cities and difference can be clearly seen.

This is Shenzhen, show me one major city in India can rival how clean this city is

Washington:
Unfavorable views toward China have soared in the past year in the United States and many other advanced economies, a survey of 14 countries conducted by the U.S.-based Pew Research Center showed on Tuesday.

The survey, conducted from June 10 to Aug. 3, found that a majority in each of the countries polled had an unfavorable opinion of China. In all, 14,276 adults were polled by telephone.

In Australia, Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, the United States, South Korea, Spain and Canada, negative views reached their highest points since Pew began polling on the topic more than a decade ago.

The findings come against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic, which began in China, and U.S. President Donald Trump's bid for re-election on Nov. 3, a campaign in which China has been a major foreign policy issue.

The Pew report said that across the nations surveyed, a median of 61 percent of respondents said China had done a bad job dealing with the outbreak, while 37 percent believed it had done a good job.

Only the United States received a more negative evaluation from those surveyed, with a median of 84 percent saying it had handled the outbreak poorly.

The report said perceptions of Beijing's handling of the pandemic had colored people's overall views of China, with those who thought it had done a bad job much more likely to have an unfavorable view of the country.
The same applied to people's confidence in Chinese President Xi Jinping, with a median of 78 percent across the 14 countries saying they had "not too much or no confidence in Xi to do the right thing regarding world affairs."

Even among those who rated China's coronavirus outbreak response positively, no more than four in 10 said they trusted Xi, Pew said.

Even as concerns about Xi rise, the survey found that in most countries, more had faith in him than in U.S. President Donald Trump. In Germany, 78 percent said they had no confidence in Xi - but 89 percent said the same of Trump.

When it came to perceptions of economic strength, China fared relatively well, and only in the United States, Japan and South Korea did more people consider America the world's leading economic power.

The countries surveyed https://www.pewresearch.org/global/...-china-reach-historic-highs-in-many-countries were Australia, Belgium, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and the United States.

I wonder if these two are the same

Chinese members whining seems amusing, considering your own Govt admitted China will face a backlash like Tiananmen protests globally for the Covid-19 pandemic

haha now you believe US numbers? Aren't you the one who said the US make a fake report to malign China and since when US embassy in Beijing or elsewhere is the nodal agency for tracking pollution in China? You're again deflecting, US embassy tracks possibly air pollution.

I don't have to visit Chinese cities to give a comparison, I have credible data that says China is the largest contributor to dangerous pollution in the world. Why should I look at sky scrappers when your country as a whole is in a messed up state.

With all these faking, tell me how do we trust any numbers that come out of China or any report based on Chinese data?
