ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said his being taken off at the Toronto airport by the US officials was an insult to Pakistan and questioned the government’s silence on the issue.

Talking to media persons after his week-long visit, the PTI chief noted the silence of the government over stopping the leader of a large Pakistani party was regrettable and indicative of the fact that it wanted the US drone strikes to continue harming Pakistan.

“After coming to power, the PTI will not let this kind of treatment to the citizens of Pakistan. Raymond Davis like killer is handed over to the US with honour while no government official, even the Pakistani ambassador, condemned my stoppage by the US officials,” he maintained. He said if he had done anything wrong, the US State Department could have explained it.

He said the PTI’s stance on the drone attacks was based on principles that these attacks were a sheer violation of the international laws and human rights, which killed innocent men, women and children. He said no law allows killing of innocent people. Imran recalled that a similar incident had happened with Maulana Fazlur Rehman and despite differences with him, the PTI had strongly condemned the incident.

About intra-party election, the PTI chief said these would be held and the process would be completed before the general election. Imran conceded that they faced some problems since the process was huge.

Meanwhile, the office of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of PTI said in view of a large number of complaints received by the election office regarding serious technical flaws in the electoral lists for the intra-party election in Islamabad, a committee was constituted by the chairman of the CEC to look into the matter on an urgent basis.

In a series of meetings held during the last two days, and in consultation with all stakeholders, the committee took stock of the nature and extent of objections to the electoral lists and found some of them to be sound and pertinent which needed to be looked into.

It also felt that if PTI proceeded to hold the election in Islamabad on the basis of these electoral lists, its fairness and transparency would be rendered suspect. The committee, therefore, decided to postpone the process in Islamabad scheduled for November 2 by a few days pending rectification of flaws as pointed out in the complaints. The new date for election in Islamabad will be announced after the CEC meeting scheduled for November 5.

The statement said the decision had been taken to ensure that the election is held in a fair, free and transparent manner and the sanctity of the election process is not questioned.

How can this be an "insult" when there are reports that IK brought up the drones first, NOT the C&BP personnel, and that IK's party may have failed to declare monetary instruments over $10k (not confirmed)?

PS: Remember how Dr. Afridi's interview was claimed to be a fake, until the phone was discovered, and then the story changed to how it was done to find out who he called? I fully expect same contortions here indue course. (Please note that such interviews are recorded.) ;)

Your comment is not only immature, it is also downright disgraceful.

I don't care if Imran was my enemy ( and he is not ), he is a Pakistani citizen.

If he was mistreated I would be by his side supporting him and demanding an explanation from the Canadian Government to explain themselves and their action.

Shame on disgraceful Zardari Administration for not demanding that explanation from the Govt. of Canada and not lodging a protest.

Learn to respect your fellow Pakistanis.

Firstly, it was US C&BP personnel that conducted the interview for entry to USA, and not the Canadian Government.

Secondly, he was not mistreated, but treated according to the procedures specified by US Immigration Law.

Here in South East Asia if people ask you questions for one hour, that becomes insult. People who become something wants Demi god like treatment. Same with SRK.

Imran used airport detention for political mileage: US

Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan used his detention and quizzing by American authorities in Toronto for political mileage, US Deputy Chief of Mission in Pakistan, Richard Hoagland, has said.

"A lot of the story that went out was not very accurate but played up for political purposes," Hoagland told journalists in Peshawar yesterday.

In principle, nobody is ever stopped from entering the US for their political beliefs, he said.
Some reports in the Pakistani media have said that Khan, the chief of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party, was quizzed by the American officials as his US visa did not permit him to engage in fund-raising activities, which was apparently one of the main reasons of his visit to the US.

Khan was also questioned about his opposition to US drone strikes, the reports said.
Hoagland said countering terrorism is "most important" in US-Pakistan relations.
"The sooner we contain terrorists, the more peaceful the methods (of counter-terrorism) will become," he said.

The "strategic pause", an interregnum in the difficult relationship between the two countries, was now making way for a "more mature but restrained relationship" based on diplomatic, military and intelligence cooperation, he said.

Hoagland further said that no matter who won the US presidential polls, there would be "no pendulum swing in foreign policy."

Are either of your allegations confirmed or were they fed to you by the American Media who got if from 'sources'?
No.

Yeah, that's what I though

You need to take some Burnol and if not there's Burnol Plus available too.

The US/Canadian Govt. didn't pay him in millions it was rather Pakistan loving US citizens who care about their blood country and trust on IK... that's why IK bagged millions. They're Pakistan loving people and they know only under IK Pakistan will prosper. IK was trusted by those people in the past, they're doing it today and in the future, and your a$$ will always be burning... so keep a good stock of Burnol handy at all times.

The US govt. did not give him any money. He comes to North America to raise funds from Pakistani Americans and Pakistani Canadians.

.
What does he expect from a sham of a government that we have.
