Imran orders restoration of previous naan, roti prices

And the icing on the cake is when IMF is blamed for being the evil one that is actually asking for the correct thing to be done here by removal of fuel subsidies. :D
Ya any removal of subsidies is evil ...

.
I wonder then why US and Europe heavily subsidizes a host of products in their country... it must be because they are evil and didn't listen to the wise patwaris.

Could you please give us some US examples in this regard, if we want to go whataboutering.

If the government can afford it, it can provide all the subsidies it wants.

That is precisely one of the problems highlighted by the IMF: fuel prices are subsidized to be too low and do not recover the costs involved.

No. Fuel isn't subsidized in Pakistan. At least not petrol.

Your government simply imposes less tax on fuel. In India a whopping 80-100% tax (center and province combined) is imposed on petrol. Yes, we pay nearly double the international market price. BD is same as India.

Petrol is not subsidized, but other fuels are, to varying degrees, specially gas and electricity for the lowest slabs of consumption.

I don't think any liquid fuel is subsidized anywhere in the subcontinent. Diesel is taxed a bit less, but it is still taxed. The key difference is that Pakistan taxes far less than India does.

Cooking LPG and electricity are subsidized for the lower slabs in India too however.

Kerosene has been subsidized a long time in India. The plan is to phase it out completely in next few years, and transfer it fully to solar cookers (asset-wise) and the likes.

Doesn't the L in LPG stand for "Liquified"? You contradict yourself above. :D

Oh yeah. Good catch. I was only thinking about automobiles.

Fair enough

I don't think this is a good idea. Price ceilings typically lead to shortages
