Imran Khan’s flawed logic on the war on terror

Imran Khan’s flawed logic on the war on terror

The figures of civilian casualties, in drones strikes, are also being exaggerated. Most of the tribal people are in favour of drones as most of the casualties are those of terrorists and the collateral damage is insignificant.

The writer is a retired brigadier who has served in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Fata

The brigadier slipped it just here, and the rest of his article is a piece of garbage as usual - justifying the actions of Musharraf/Army while calling the civilian deaths and it's percussions as insignificant collateral damage. The author doesn't even know a jack about the tribal belt where many different groups are operating but he painted them as Taliban.

The author failed to or should've helped the readers if he had quoted a few statements given by Imran Khan on 'The End of War on Terror', that way the readers would've had a comprehensive idea of where IK is flawed, and with his (Brigadier's) insights he should've cleared those flaws with factual analysis. The only thing I see flawed about IK's analysis as stated by the author is with the dates - I don't see any other reason why the author had to call his ideas as flawed.

Imran Khan is very straight in his logic, and he says once we 'stop' being seen as US Ultra-puppets, support for terrorists/radicals/extremists will drop and once that happens it will be far easier to deal with them. Now I don't see why IK is flawed here - anybody with a conscious mind would understand that IK is absolutely spot on. Now, either the author failed to understand his logic or he just called it flawed out of shear envious (of his popularity) and in contrast to that, didn't bother to provide a conclusion/outcome of how to get-out of this mess created by Musharraf.

It amazes me how naive our pseudo intellectuals are and how they see FATA people causing more terrorrism than America in the world - where there were no name of terrorism in Pakistan (linking them to FATA) but as soon as the US lands in Afghanistan and Musharraf becomes the executive just before that - the sky break loos and the patriotic FATA people are termed as terrorists/radicals/extremists and what not - who safeguarded our country for ages, shame on you people calling them all this.

Imran Khan very rightly said in an interview to NDTV, ''These liberal-fascist are the scum of Pakistan''. Musharraf was/is a liberal fascist and just because of his absolute flawed policies, 35000 Pakistani lost their precious lives today - the author failed to mentioned this prime-factor in his whole analysis for obvious reasons. The author failed to termed Musharraf as a criminal and he should've suggested, a criminal should be dealt accordingly.

The dates are not the issue. Here the author clearly states that Imran Khan's logic that WOT caused all this is wrong and completely flawed. His theory of resolving this issue in 90 days is utterly ridiculous not to mention the consequences in the long run. In my opinion, the reason behind all this was lack of writ, laws and governance over decades which resulted in tribals and foreign elements enforcing unlawful inhumane laws which they believe are 'Islamic'.

As mentioned earlier, the government made efforts for development of these areas. However, it met stiff resistance against schools, health care and etc. They murdered NGOS, officials, FC troops and others.

The irony in all this is here we have Imran Khan's party named Tehreek-E-Insaf preaching against laws of the land being implemented in these areas. He has repeatedly said in his interviews that Pakistani laws are not applicable in tribal belt.

I think the author clearly indicates his counter points in the article as to why Imran Khan is wrong in all this. The area in question was lawless and had several questionable elements prior to WOT.

Read this part again:

The rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan, directly contributed to religious extremism in Fata and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP). In November 1994, the Afghan-Taliban captured Kandahar. The same month the Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi initiated a movement for the implementation of Sharia in Malakand Division. Within no time, armed militants took control of the whole of Malakand Division. A sitting PPP MPA was shot dead. Men were forced to wear watches on their right hand and traffic was made to ply on the right hand, the left being un-Islamic. It took Frontier Corps more than a month to dislodge militants and regain control of the area.

In September 1996, the Afghan Taliban captured Kabul. Many tribal and other Pakistanis formed part of the Taliban fighting force. In 1997, a small Taliban force started operating in Orakzai Agency. In 1998, the Taliban emerged in North Waziristan Agency and by 1999 they were in control of Mirali. By 2000, the Taliban had spread to Bajaur and some other parts of Malakand Division. As early as 2000 in Peshawar, force was used by militants against cable operators to stop their operations. An organised movement was run against NGOs. A maulvi from Dir issued an edict that any NGO woman found in the area should be apprehended and taken as a wife.

Patriotic? these people blew up schools for women. Termed polio vaccine against Islam and god knows what else.

That is completely incorrect. The real scum here are the people proclaiming the guardians of law who support lawless tribal radicals hell bent on enforcing laws against our constitution and those who challenge the writ of the state. Time and again, they have repeatedly done so. Prior to 2002, we tolerated such elements or perhaps ignored but it had to end. This cancerous lawlessness would have been fatal for Pakistan.

Musharraf was NOT responsible for the 35k people you speak of. They were murdered by these 'tribal' foreign elements residing in these areas. If Imran Khan is soo appalled by the US violating our sovereignity he should equally voice his disgust over those elements who use Pakistani land to spread menace within Pakistan and beyond.

We have to establish writ of state at all costs.

Sir they never have accepted any one writ Sir they live with their own styles and if you will use military and try to impose your will and writ they will hit back and their stamina can make them fight for next 1000 years which no normal Armed Forces can do talking to them is the only option left

Why cant they change ? if they call themselves Pakistani than they should follow what all Pakistanis follow. As a Pakistani you are automatically sworn to the state and its constitution , one must abide by and follow rules. The ironic part is the entire community is bounded by few so called un-elected oldie tribal leaders" their governance is ran parallel to the state of Pakistan. This country is a country is a diverse mix of various ethinicities when all are following the constitution then FATAN's should follow rules are same to all. Most importantly what good these so called leaders are who brought such miseries to their people in the form of current WOT. There are obvious reasons why they dont want education in their areas .. think about it , once people are educated they will start thinking broadly thus why declaring every one enemy.

I care more about this clown Imran Khan trying to make goody goody with India. Like WHAAAT?

all the current politicians - zardari,nawaz,musharraf,imran- want good relation with india..its the generals who are afraid of that..so no use blaming imran alone..

Sir they will never change and Sir they called themselves Pakistanis on their terms and your Quaid e Azam agreed with it otherwise they wouldn't have become part of Pakistan Jinnah gave them assurance that no army will enter their area and no laws of Pakistan will be applied there

IF he is elected, would be interesting to see how Imran Khan would react to lawless tribal lunatics hell bent on enforcing their version of unlawful barbaric draconian laws. When they threaten the livelihood of people. Would he cede to their demands and surrender entire Swat, KPK and beyond to them?

Only time will tell.

Spot On. Only talk is the easiest thing in the world, to do.

If that's the case, I sincerely hope a General rises to power.

As i mentioned it before in this post , Imran Khan has gained popularity, not because he is a suitable alternative for the actual problems facing Pakistan, but because he fits right into the establishment narrative for the problems facing Pakistan, namely puppet-governance and foreign interference. Why did Jahangir Akhtar not have popular backing ? Because he stood for cutting off the defence spending as a part of improving the economy. Unfortunately, for Imran Khan, if he cannot abolish feudalism, he's just going to sound like another Bhutto, which will leave Pakistan in further tatters.

world countries will not allow it...:azn:
no...pak people wont allow it

"What else can be expected from a playboy-cricketer who has no more than 10 neurons (brain cells) in total."
What can be expected of most of the politicians today in pak that rely on their fake degrees to run the country? versus someone who's an oxford graduate..?

These are different times and Like we have changed the constitution various times NA should pass a resolution to abolish this tribal system and throw this tribal fundo , self centered leaders out of the counry & help liberate the people of FATA.

just found him on twitter @asadmunir38 in his reply said @ "I have not alleged anything, just gave my opinion, i do not claim that i am right ,i may b wrong"

the guy is not even sure himself, let alone shah say ziyada shah kay wafadar.

It seems to me like the author is making a false dichotomy between fighting terrorists+feudalists and opposing the war on terror.

The way I see it you don't have to be an American puppet to fight terrorists. Many common people will support the Taliban and other "terror" groups not because they like their fundamentalist ideology but because they are the only guys fighting for sovereignty against America.
