The UK has changed its travel advice today to reflect the improved security situation in Pakistan.

Today’s announcement is the result of a comprehensive review of UK travel advice for Pakistan, based on a wide-ranging assessment of the country’s security situation. This is the first major update in the travel advice since 2015.

The improved security situation allowed for the return of British Airways to Pakistan in June 2019 and the visit by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in October 2019. Among other changes, the advice now allows for travel by road to the North of Pakistan as well as the Kalesh and Bamboret Valleys.

Dr Christian Turner, British High Commissioner to Pakistan, said:

Following my arrival in December 2019, I made this review of the travel advice a priority. It is great credit to the hard work of the Government of Pakistan in delivering improved security over the past five years. I am delighted that British nationals will be able to see more of what Pakistan has to offer.

Notes to editors:
  • The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) provides travel advice based on objective information to help British Nationals make better informed decisions about foreign travel.

  • The new travel advice for Pakistan reduces the section of the Karakoram Highway where the FCO advises against all travel to the area between Mansehra and Chilas alone (previous travel advice covered the full route from Islamabad to Gilgit). Travellers may bypass this section by taking the alternative route through the Kaghan Valley and Babusar Pass.

  • The FCO no longer advises against all but essential travel to the Kalesh and Bamboret Valleys.

  • The FCO advises against all travel to most of Balochistan including the city of Quetta. This is except for the southern coast of Balochistan, including the city of Gwadar, where the FCO advises against all but essential travel.

  • Like all FCO travel advice, these changes are based on security assessments, which are kept under constant review.

  • In 2018, there were an estimated 484,000 visits by British nationals to Pakistan. There are 22 weekly direct flights to the UK.

UK relaxes travel guidelines for Pakistan citing improved security

The United Kingdom made a major change to its travel advisory, stating that Pakistan was safer to travel in light of "improving security situation" in the country, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) announced on Friday.

"This is the first major update in the travel advice since 2015, " read a post on the UK government's website.

In a statement following a "wide-ranging assessment" of Pakistan's security situation, the FCO said British nationals could now "travel by road to the North of Pakistan as well as the Kalesh and Bamboret Valleys".

In this regard, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Dr Christian Turner, said: "It is great credit to the hard work of the Government of Pakistan in delivering improved security over the past five years.

"I am delighted that British nationals will be able to see more of what Pakistan has to offer," Dr Turner added.

The statement also cited the long-awaited return of British Airways' flights to Pakistan back in June 2019, as well as the visit of UK Royals — Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge — to various towns and cities in the country in October 2019.

There are 1.1 million pakistanis in the UK, 484,000 were the pakistanis who visited back home. LOL no native gora wants to visit on a holiday

Hmm... Are you considered a British tourist if you are travelling on Pakistani Passport/nicop?

MashaALLAH - this is GREAT news.

If USA follows UK with change in their advisory, then, practically, the whole world is covered.

In addition, if FATF lets us off the hook then job is done.

Mind you, all these things will be a quick in the teeth for Bhindians.

IK has been pressing for help in FATF and change in travel advisory.

The economic planning of this Govt. is structured around:
  • Tourism
  • Exports
  • Industrialization
  • Job creation
  • Animal Farming
  • Farmers

When that side of border is fenced by 2020 then things would improve vastly.
That is the only weak spot left I agree.
But even then you have to Agree that security forces are doing their best.
All we need is good fencing.

Absolutely awesome news. These are developments which India despises.

A section of the Brit Pak youth have destroyed the image of Brit Pakistanis in general. These swines have become drug gangs involved in fraud and sexual grooming of white British teenage girls.
