Improving Bangladesh's Defense In the 21st Century

Bangladesh wants to be an economiclly successful country, but the military will also not relinquish its position and will not forfeit its right to improve the quality of the armed forces and thus defend the country. Well, BD is not certainly vying for a similar military position that Pakistan holds today, nevertheless, it will keep on improving its defensive capabilities, because BD is not ready to be bullied by others. When a govt allows that to happen, it will fall. Therefore, any govt has to fulfill the need of improving the defense capability.

By the way, many people have noticed one thing in the past. Since AL is regarded by many as Indian stooge, therefore, AL wants to erase that image by complying with the military purchasing needs. It is opposite with BNP. That Party is known as anti-Indian, whatever may be the reality. So, they can get away even if they do not spend money on defense.

Therefore, I expect a bigger purchase this time during the AL tenure.

considering bangladesh,s good relations with russia and past weapons purchase then its logical that they will get direct weapons from russia
my pakistani friends here were talking about jf-17 sale is it posbbile for you to sell the aircraft has sell to 3rd parties agreement signed ?
can you sell jf-17 with russian engines to bangladesh with a cheaper price and russia wont object ?
why wont russia want to supply themselves that makes more business sense ist it?

As BAF Pilots have master the MiG-29s there is a chance to buy russian planes. Also as BAF Pilots are flying F-7 there is a chance for J-10X at the next purchase from china.
BAL Govt. may purchase FC-1 from china but i don't think they wil buy the Pakistani version JF-17 as it does not match with their nature. Also from china FC-1 can be modified as BAF want to.

Is it not that the Chinese are still building the J-10 jets? I have also heard that China will not sell this plane even to Pakistan, at least for the time being. In a situation like this, can BD expect to purchase these planes? By the way, how much does an unit of J-10 costs and what are its special features?

Please excuse my ignorence about fighter/multirole aircraft. Is this plane third generation fighter equal to early F-16 or so.

Again, do not have any idea about fighter/Multirole aircraft.

Thanks

Bro Khabib,

Please note that Chinese 3rd generation is equal to Western 4th generation. J-10 B or S is at least as equal to F-16 C/D but with AESA radar and TVC engine, it would be in the league of F-16 E/F, RAFALE, EURO fighter IMO. In many mock fights it beat SU-30s 9 out of 10 times. So, you can imagine the potential of it. Having said all that i want to point out that it might be over kill for BAF since our sky is small and potential enemies are extremely strong, especially in offensively. In that context, a vast array of missile forces along with STOL, VTOL fighters (Like JF-35, Sea Harrier) or fighters with very small take offs (Grippen, Custom FC-1 etc) are more feasible IMHO. Furthermore, very potent submarine forces that can pose potent/devastating threat on enemies are also recommendable. Finally land force needs to have symmetric and asymmetric masteries along with their creation of 'CITIZEN SOLDIERS'. I'll write comprehensive essay on this subject in future, (insha-allah).

Thanks a lot. hoping this govt. will not go for the same russian aircraft again.

What rubbish, you think Russian weapon systems are junk but the Chinese xerox versions are better?

China has come a long way, there's no denying that, but Russia is still leaps and bounds ahead of China in terms of technology. The Russians were launching people into space when Mao was busy forcing millions to make 'steel' in their backyard :-)D).

The Chinese have simply reverse engineered Russian aircraft and made a cheaper and low tech version of the same. By any measure, the real version is still better and time tested in terms of reliability, and combat history.

No offence. I am not saying in any way that russian military hardware is inferior to China. But last time when we bought Mig-29, it was used
and had a very short air life left. Maintainence cost was equal to the entire budget of our air force. There was no armanent purchased with the air craft and agreement was we can only overhaul that
in India.

During BNP time, india rumored to rufuse that. And Myanmar bought the same as much cheaper. Now, apply your judgement.

BRO

I'm neither a General nor in military but a continuous learner. Muslim's dire straightness led me to study about military tech., logistics a lot. BTW, please open the following link to see who is talking about 'Citizen Soldier' or the neediness of 'Everyone's military training'. People, who talk about economic prosperity without having military-might, are just half-backed intellects/thought provokers, especially when they are small fishes and live next to shark, i.e. IND.

Sorry guys i havent read what you have posted so far so cant guess the real discussion at hands. But i would love to see Bangladesh having some defence accords with Pakistan.

I think its time the two countries should join hands. It would be best for defence of both the countries specially Bangladesh. In case Myanmar goes out of limits Pakistan should provide its jets and pilots as we did to Sri Lanka against LTTE.

Good Luck BD
