What's new

If we had $$, which fighter jets would PAF buy?

Does Pakistan plan to get aircraft carriers soon?
Not before 2028, I am sure.

Also, making of J-15 for Pakistan will be quicker as J-16 numbers are needed by the PLAAF at the moment.

All J-11/15/16 are manufactured by SAC.

If we had the money, invest it in gas turbines, steel, composites, electronics (including semiconductors, fabtech, etc) so we get Pr. Azm.

No reason why we should send $10-15 bn in precious hard currency to countries that will slap us in FATF and throw us under the bus at every opportunity.

We're alone physically. It's time to think like that in our heads.
For that Pakistan needs Universities that produces Quality graduates. PhD researchers that excel in their field instead of writing political blogs. Enough funding for university to continue their projects and produce some quality research papers. Than you handpicked researchers from these university in their respective fields, and tell them issue at hand, throw money at them than expect a home grown defense system. For e.g Pakistan needs to make use of super (quantum)computer and AI in their research universities and major projects to crunch data, equations and run complex simulations.

Dude for them J-11,J-15 and J-16 are same.

Immediate reason is China would soon replace these ACs with other carrier based units....all J-15 will immediately goes through modification such as carrier enabled take off/landing mechanism will be removed...reducing weight and possibly AESA Radar.

The other reason is they are sanction free off-the-self items ...let the deal goes through and they will be on Pak sky.

Do you think Russia would make a land-based version of Su-33, while there are Su-30 and Su-35 already?

1) Are you saying that Chinese are going to redesigning J-15 for Pakistan?
2) Why not off the shelf J-16 which is land base and has a AESA Radar.
3) What would be the point of buying a aircraft that size without AESA Radar?

Why the senior user "Mastan Khan" is absent from his favorite topic.

1. J-15 is basically carrier based ...derived from SU33 air frame ....converting in to land based means removing some extra mechanical arrangement for deck-takeoff/landing ...

2. J-16 could be the first choice but Russian NOC is required...J-15 uses much of Chinese equipment ( Engine: 2 x Shenyang WS-10) and avionics including AESA radar. Hence less objections.

3. It has AESA Radar

. . .
@NA71 we do have active discussion based upon subject and that is not the forums. Instead of being an advertising representation, try to discuss the subject per merits of its own instead of referring some other forum again and again.

lol, it’s like converting my Mercedes into a Toyota Corolla.
J-16 uses Chinese engine, avionics and Radar. Why Russian NOC would be required for J-16 but not J-15? Please explain?

Modern day air warfare is no more dog fight specific where you would require pulling out crazy manoeuvres. Air show performances and air battle are two different things. Airframe has taken the back seat while avionics and weapon systems are of prime importance. You would see the performance of SU-30 in any air show and would be impressed by seeing the manoeuvre it can perform with the aid of its thrust vectoring engine; whereas F-16 might not appear as impressive in air show as its counterpart; but on a given day in the real battle F-16 will make SU-30 bite the dust due to its superior avionics and weapon systems. I would avoid going in the details as all of us are well aware of it and the saga of SU-30 is over.
Now coming back to the point; JF-17 Block 3 with its AESA radar and modern weapon systems is not a walk over by any means even against Rafale. It will do the job that it is intended to do and will serve the purpose it is designed for. Now accessing the threat perspective arising from our eastern border in the form of their new toy called Rafael (after the sad demise of SU-30MKI) and the possibility of induction in excess of just 36. The most likely solution would be to induct one squadron of F-16 Block 70/72 which would be 18 in numbers and to upgrade our existing fleet of F-16 Block 50/52 (which are also 18 in numbers) to Block 70/72 standard equipped with AESA radars. These coupled with JF-17 Block 3 and the subsequent upgrade of Block 1&2 to Block 3 standard would result in the availability of font line fighters in abundance to deter any potential air threat. Then by that time we hope Project Azm would start taking some practical shape.

.
Sound perfect to get F-16 block 70/72 and upgrade all our F-16s to block 70/72 but reality is different than that. Any F-16 sale has to be approved by President/Pentagon & Congress.

If I had the money I would invest in medium weight, heavy weight fighter and high altitude & high endurance drone project.

Single Engine fighter:
Smaller size (closer to F-35) with Single engine
*Bubble canopy, Glass cockpit/LCD, HUD and Helmet-mounted display-HMD
*Advanced avionics with active phased array
*Stealthy, supermaneuverable, supercruise capability, vertical stabilizers;
*Chinese or Russian engine with thrust vectoring (TVC) nozzles
*extensive use of composites/carbon fiber; lightweight alloys
*reduced radar cross-section (RCS)
*treated with radar-absorbent material (RAM)
*infra-red search and track (IRST)
*Electro-optical target system (EOTS)
*Infra Red Electronic Countermeasures (IRCM)
*Long ranger BVR missile/Radiation missile/Air to Surface missile/laser guided missile

Short term solution: Acquire true 4th generation fighter, options are limited to J-16 or SU-35 while working on JF-17 block 4.

Long term solution (Between 2025-2030): purchase required technology from China (J-31/J-20), Russia (Project Mikoyan LMFS/Sukhoi Su-57), Turkey (TAI TFX project) and other friendly countries for the 5th generation fighter project.
