IDEX 2017: Future F-16 Fighter Jets To be Made in USA

Thank god if true. Can finally end the MoD fascination with American jets. :) Go with French or Russians or Indigenous.

But last week Lockheed's head of F-16 business development, Randall Howard said in Bangaluru that " Talks are being held between the American and Indian governments on its proposal to manufacture F-16 fighter jets in India."

And then the latest news is shared during Idex-2017 UAE on 22.02.2017 and details are explained in OP Article. Priorities changes overnight that no once can predict especially, when there is no formal/official agreement at all.

Don't see where it says the IAF is interested in fighters it has already rejected (F-16/Gripen). The part about SPs and made in india fighter jets clearly refers to the Rafale.

One of the key reasons why the Gripen was rejected was the lack of proof that an AESA radar
would fit into the nose cone.
Another good reason was that IAF wanted to induct planes very quickly,
and Gripen E was not available.
Using obsolete arguments is not convincing.
The time schedule for the single engine MII fits very well with the availability of Gripen E IOC.
IF IAF really would like F-16, there would not be a reason to wait 4-5 years.

The Russians? Are you crazy? Not another expensive and spare hungry waste of resources. The Russians are unable to compete in the Indian market on merit, long may that continue.

You're barking up the wrong tree mate, the IAF doesn't want anymore single engine fighters (beyond the LCA), what are they going to do with them?

Once they make any indication in that direction, You have a credibility over 0%.
Right now, there are plenty of government & IAF sources saying that India want to induct 100
non-LCA single engine fighters.

Show a source saying they have lost interest.

You still owe us an explanation, why MMRCA findings have any relevance today.

but we read dozens of articles india will made f-16 for us in future

Show us one such article please. India can and never will produce anything for Pakistan regardless of whatever economic benefits it may offer. Our sole purpose of buying weapons is to counter Pakistan & China

1) Both Gripen and F-16 were rejected by the IAF on technical grounds
2) The IAF has never publically stated they need a seconf SE LWF fighter, they are all about performance machines (ie the heavies)
3) LCA is now in service and production is being ramped up with IAF and IN support, recently HAL got CCS clearance to create the second production line so by 2020 there will be a capacity to churn out >20 LCA/year, more than enough for the IAF. It wouldn't be before 2022/3 that a foreign production/assembly line could be set up in India, by that time >100 LCA will be in service.
4) The LCA MK.1A will be a huge leap over the current MK.1 and the MK.2 will match (if not beat) the Gripen-NG by pretty much any metric.

if speed of induction is the issue, a foreign fighter isn't going to provide a solution.
1. GoI has issued a RFI for single engine fighters. Now why would they do that if all they were going to do is induct only Tejas. F-16 & Gripen were rejected in the previous MMRCA process as those were for twin jets.
2. Avionics capability of gripen is far superior to anything we have in India today as is its data fusion capabilities which GoI may be interested for its own LCA program.
3. Now with India getting a way out of F-16, Gripen is high on the list
4. LCA Program regardless of any foreign acquisitions would continue especially since Tejas is considered overweight than it needs to be as of now.
5. Fact that both Tejas and Gripen will use F-414 EPE for propulsion may facilitate such an acquisition as well.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US-based FAAC Company has received a nearly $10 million US Air Force contract to provide operational flight program software updates for the F-16 weapon system including software capabilities and more powerful computers, the Department of Defense said in a press release.

“FAAC [of] Ann Arbor, Michigan, has been awarded a $9.5 million… contract for Common Weapon Engagement Zone — Operational Flight program software updates,” the announcement stated on Monday.

The company will support updates on the F-16 weapon system to include, software capabilities upgrade, multi mission computer, and European participating air forces mid-life updates for Block 15 of the aircraft’s production run, the Defense Department explained.

Work on the program will be carried out over the next six years and will be administered by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Hill Air Force Base in the US state of Utah, the announcement added.

FAAC has provided systems engineering and software products to the US government and private industry, air and land warfare tactics, avionics, electronic warfare training ranges and weapon system trainers according to published reports.
