The GCS-200 will provide a C-IED and demining capability. Source: Global Clearance Solutions
Global Clearance Solutions' GCS-200 unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) will be supplied to Bahrain as the launch customer for the platform, a company official has revealed.
Speaking to Jane's at IDEX 2017 in Abu Dhabi where the GCS-200 was unveiled, Global Clearance Solutions' head of marketing and communications, Andreas Mikota, said a single system will be delivered shortly.
The launch of the GCS-200 follows that of the smaller GCS-100 in late 2016.
The GCS-200 is a larger and more rugged design, featuring varying levels of armour protection from 8 mm to 20 mm in thickness and a v-shaped hull to help deflect blasts on the underside of the vehicle. The system is intended to provide counter-improvised explosive device (C-IED) and demining capabilities.
Development of the system started about 2 years ago according to Mikota, with testing undertaken in Germany and Colombia. Further trials are set to take place in Southeast Asia and elsewhere.
A range of tools and attachments are available for the system; the unit set for delivery to Bahrain will have options including a manipulator arm, dozer blade, fork lift, and a runway flail. A tiller, flail, and runway clearance system - which along with the runway flail have been developed by Global Clearance Solutions - are also available.
According to the company, when equipped with the flail, the system is capable of clearing up to 12,000 sq m at a depth of 25 cm.
The GCS-200 features a special three-point harness that simplifies the integration of a range of commercial off-the-shelf tools.
Mikota said the GCS-200 design follows the approach taken for the GCS-100, whereby all of the components are housed internally with a layout that is intended to simplify maintenance. It also features a cooling system that runs from the rear to the front of the vehicle that is intended to improve performance and cool a larger internal area.
