World premiere at IDEF 2019, the Defense Exhibition in Istanbul, for the MAV Marine Assault Vehicle designed and developed by the Turkish Company FNSS. This a new generation of tracked amphibious armored vehicle which has been greatly anticipated by the sector due to a limited number of comparable vehicles in the same class, principally because of the challenging requirements and highly specialized mission definition associated with these vehicles.
Visitors to the FNSS stand will have the opportunity to see the first prototype MAV, whose main role is to support the combat capabilities of marine forces in line with the requirements of the 21st century combat environments.
MAV is being developed as part of the Armored Amphibious Assault Vehicles (Zırhlı Amfibi Hücum Araçları, ZAHA) Project being conducted by the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) to meet a need of Turkish Naval Forces Command. Within the project, FNSS will deliver a total of 27 vehicles, including 23 personnel carriers, two command and control vehicles and two recovery vehicles.
In addition to enabling the safe landing of units during amphibious operations, the armored amphibious assault vehicles also serve as armored personnel carriers after reaching the shore.
During the amphibious assault phase of an operation, these vehicles are launched from Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) and rapidly cover the distance between the vessel and shore, allowing forces to land under protection and with minimum delay. Once on land, these vehicles can continue taking part in operations side-by-side with other armored vehicles. As vehicles with a dual role due to their mission requirements, armored amphibious assault vehicles need to exhibit superior performance both at sea and on land, and only a few countries around the world have such vehicles in their inventories. Among the NATO countries and allies, there is only one company other than FNSS producing vehicles of this class.
With ZAHA, FNSS takes armored amphibious assault vehicles into the 21st century, and the project has now reached the Critical Design Review phase. Venturing outside classical approaches within the defence projects, FNSS has completed its evaluation of the vehicle’s design not only on paper but also on the prototype, for this review. The review will be on executing on the prototype vehicle in the integration hall.

To put it briefly, until the MAV made its appearance, there was no such vehicle on the market. We are developing MAV in response to the requirements of the Turkish Naval Forces, which carried out one of the most important amphibious operations in the last 50 years with great success. The Turkish-made T-155 FIRTINA 155mm tracked self-propelled howitzer equipped with ASELSAN’s New Generation Fire Control System showcases for the first time in the demonstration area of the Ministry of National Defense, General Directorate of Military Factories at IDEF 2019, Defense Exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey.
Howitzers are one of two primary types of field artillery and probably the most powerful one. ASELSAN has signed a new contract with Turkish procurement authority, Turkish Presidency of Defence Industries for “New Generation Fire Control System for T-155 FIRTINA Self Propelled Howitzers”.
In fact, this contract is not an entry point for ASELSAN on Fire Control Systems domain. In contrary, ASELSAN has been providing artillery fire control systems for nearly two decades. Among the portfolio of the company, Main Battle Tank Modernization, Self Propelled and Towed Howitzer Modernization, Multiple Launch Rocket Fire Control Systems as well as Fire Support Command Control Systems are the most significant examples of field-proven artillery modernization capabilities.
The T-155 FIRTINA Howitzers are in the inventory of the Turkish Army since the early 2000s and the Fire Control System was already developed and supplied by ASELSAN. The New Generation Fire Control System for T-155 Self Propelled Howitzers has been developed according to the feedback from the battlefield, taking into account the recent technological developments as well as the emerging requirements that showed up in parallel to new concepts in the battlefield.
The most important aspect of Turkish T-155 FIRTINA Howitzers is that they have been actively used in border security and cross-border operations of Turkey in the scope of counter-terrorism and increased the technology-based power of modern Turkish artillery.
From the date it was first used till today, FIRTINA Howitzer has shown that it is one of the most important weapon systems of Turkish Armed Forces and has greatly increased the firepower of Turkish Artillery.

Turkish Company FNSS showcases the latest prototype of its PARS 4x4 anti-tank armored vehicle at IDEF 2019, which has been developed by FNSS in line with the requirements of Turkish Land Forces Command, is poised to set new standards in the market, equipped with features not found in any other vehicles in its class. The prototype vehicle is currently at the final stage of the qualification process.
The PARS 4x4 ANTI TANK was devised as a vehicle that relies on its firepower, speed and high maneuverability under all terrain conditions to destroy enemy tanks and other armored units from a distance, and to engage secondary targets after rapidly changing positions. Drawing upon its vast experience and innovative approaches, FNSS has come up with a very special amphibious vehicle that is capable of meeting all of these challenging requirements at the same time.
Most noteworthy among the PARS 4x4 ANTI TANK’s features is the positioning of its power pack at the rear of the vehicle, which keeps the cooling grate and exhaust on the upper section of the vehicle, allowing it to enter the water without prior preparation by installing a swimming kit. And thus granting it with the best amphibious capabilities in its class. Moreover, the rear position of the power pack also allows the PARS 4x4 to maneuver at higher speeds. All these features, which can only be expected from a vehicle with its power pack located at the rear, grants the PARS 4x4 with critical capabilities in terms of leaving its position after firing and moving away from a threat zone.
Developed as part of the Anti-Tank Vehicles (ATV) project conducted by the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB), PARS 4x4 will have its serial production launched as soon as the qualification tests are completed, with all deliveries under the ATV project expected to be completed in 2021.

Turkish Company FNSS will supply PARS 6x6 and 8x8 armored vehicles to the Turkish armed forces and Gendarmerie. The PARS Tactical Wheeled Armoured Vehicle family of FNSS, which is serving worldwide in different countries, has also become the vehicle of choice of Turkey.
With the contract for the Special Purpose Tactical Wheeled Armoured Vehicles (SPTWAV) Project that was signed between the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) and FNSS, the company shall supply PARS SCOUT 8x8 and 6x6 vehicles both for the Turkish Land Forces and the General Command of Gendarmerie.
The first stage of the project will involve the development of five different vehicle configurations, and production of a total of 100 vehicles. The project will cover the delivery of Command and Radar Vehicles as well as Sensor and CBRN Reconnaissance Vehicles for the Turkish Land Forces, and Armoured Combat Vehicles for the General Command of Gendarmerie.
Having conducted R&D on tactical wheeled armored vehicles for many years, FNSS reaped the first fruits of its labors in 2005, becoming the first company in Turkey to roll out a product family of such vehicles. After competing with the world’s other leading companies in land vehicles, this product family became the vehicle of choice of Malaysia in 2010, and of Oman in 2015. FNSS thus managed to export two members of its PARS product family, the 8x8 and 6x6 vehicles, before having delivered to Turkish users. These vehicles were developed in a variety of highly different configurations for both Malaysia and Oman, and development works on various configurations are still continuing.
Specifically for the SPTWAV project, FNSS designed a special PARS family vehicle, SCOUT, superior for reconnaissance operations. The PARS SCOUT 6x6 and 8x8 offer superior mobility and a comfortable and safe drive in all types of road and terrain conditions, as well as balanced and high-speed movement on straight roads, low risk of skidding in bends. Also, the vehicle’s transparent armor (ballistic glass) integration ensures high situational awareness. Together, these features make a big difference for reconnaissance operations.
The PARS SCOUT 6x6 and 8x8 Tactical Wheeled Armoured Vehicles will make use of indigenous subsystems for their basic automotive equipment/hardware such as their powertrain, and the vehicles will also be integrated with an FNSS-designed Remote Controlled Turret System.

Reduced size and weight are also contributing factors to AKREP II’s agility. AKREP II has outstanding automotive performance in terms of speed, acceleration and gradeability.
