it is very powerful platform and is claimed to be the most armoured gunship. sale of this helicopter to Pakistan might not be possible because of Russian reluctance to open up to Pakistan with its top line weapons system. not to mention the outcry from India will be deafening for Putin to ignore in Kremlin.

Russia still has the Kamov Ka-50 as its top line, the MI-28X is quite an old design now. So it might also be possible for Pakistan to get it in small numbers 10 to 20. If bad gets to worst thenTurkey and China has some good ones too.

If we are going for this one...then what about T-129 deal from turkey? Isnt Turkey a more reliable partner to Pakistan..with whom we should be looking for expanding more defence ties? If this MI -28 deal happens..then will it replace T-129 deal with Turkey?

Kamov KA-52 looks more appropriate for the army as well as for navy as it has both versions.

You cannot call them yours without approval from him, even if you catch it as the source seems to be back, yes, i do suspect he is back again with the old 101 making another appearance, if you know what i mean (mostly, his are guests appearance these days as regular members and MODs have a good know how of his traits and are quick to spot him )

Anyway, all members must keep in mind that as of now it is only an interest that Pakistan have shown in Mi-28. For now, i guess we will be seeing Mi-35 in near future and that will be that. This is a good start and Pakistan seriously needs to work on foreign policy to improve relations with Russia. The SAM and the Mi-28 may come later as of now the whole scenario is pretty clear, we are engaged in war against terror in KPK areas and need air support for that ongoing operation. The cobras are getting too expensive to operate, T-129B are not fully operational and also way to expensive to procure, the Chinese Z-10 is not mature either, BUT, MOST IMPORTANTLY, the Mi-35 is THE BEST chopper in that particular battle scenario. It have loads of fire power, good protection, a great option of limited transport (8 fully equipped troops is not that LIMITED either) that will come very handy in the COIN operations our forces are involved in. Only other option that could have stepped up for this operation would have been cheap Cobra's from US but that too do not have troop insertion and evac option, still PA might have been inclined toward that due to loads of experience on the Cobras (and that would have saved us some $$$)
Another thing in favor of i-35 is that these are one of the options that will be made available in quickest of the times (only other option beating it in this field of time of delivery would have again been used Super Cobras)

All in all, Mi-35 is the best option PA could have gone for this particular role. So it really is good news but i am afraid as of now that is all the good news, nothing much on mi-28.

Also please note that the next Helicopter procurement (after we get 20-24 Mi-35) will be for eastern front, we have some time to finalize that and will surely consider T-129, Z-10, Mi-28 and other options in that role (achieving commonality with rest of helicopter fleet comprising of Russia Mi-17, Mi-35 may work in Mi-28's favor then).

I think PAA should ask Russia for a bigger deal and with payment to be schedule in 10 years time:
30-50 Mi-35s
30-50 Mi-28s
100-150 Mi-17s

Mi28 is just another possible option just like T129 and Z-10 are.
what matters is .. which of the platform is most suited to our military in its short term and long term requirements.
then its availability, procurement, funding, training and integration into the military in the future. as of yet.. this news is as much news as much T-129 or Z-10 are.
so read it and let it pass. I wont even declare Mi 35 deal a sure thing yet until the dates of their arrival and our personnel training commences.

All this talk is blackmail politics played by Russia against India before putin's visit. If the talks between putin and modi are fruitful, these deals will not materialize and some sort of a compensatory deal like Rd-93 engine deal will talk place. If the talks between modi and putin are not so fruitful, at the most Russian minister or military head visiting may happen. In the meantime...India would surely try to stop this from happening. Just like India stalled JF-17 avionics from france, maybe they will do something about this as well.

Indeed, the reality on the ground about a breakthrough heli deal, enhanced defense co-operation and warmer ties with Moscow is all false. That must be it, a play in motion since the world revolves around the tristar.
