New Delhi : An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, allegedly caught accepting a bribe from a foreign defence firm during the Bangalore air show February, may soon face a court martial with a court of inquiry holding him blameworthy in the case.

The IAF has set the ball rolling for the court martial with the summary of evidence being ordered against Wing Commander A.K. Thakur, accused of demanding and accepting Rs.20,000 from a foreign aircraft manufacturer, competing in the $10.4-billion combat jet tender, an IAF officer told IANS here.

Summary of evidence is the first step towards a formal court martial.

It was alleged that the officer had taken the money to provide a vantage position for the company's aircraft in the static display at the Yelahanka air base, where the five-day AeroIndia-2011 show was held.

Thakur, a transport pilot, was responsible for organising the display.

The court of inquiry was held in Bangalore after the officer was nabbed red-handed following a tip-off from the French aviation company to the Defence Exhibition Organisation.

More than 50 aircraft and helicopters from global aviation giants took part in the static display.

High time - We blacklist Dassault .
On one hand arm-twisting IAF for Mirage deal , while with other hand Giving bribes and setting up an air-force officer .

^ . With decent salary in armed forces . Plus advantage we get thru DSOP , why would one endanger his ACR / Job . Certainly not OLQ .

I still doubt Officer concerned was at fault , that to for mere 20000Rs .

.
Whatever happens to that IAF officer but I think Dassault has to be banned from indian def market

.
^^^
I hope dassault is not banned.....i would chose Rafale not just for IAF but also for IN (if IN doesnot chose F35).

^^ DASSAULT will try again to give bribe. i suspect that top brass may have taken bribe from DASSAULT and they exposed junior officer to save themselves. or it is false news as creating excuse for going for f 18. if DASSAULT is out from contest it means competition is less for f 18.

.
^^ what about their arm twisting for mirage deal. ?
It is business man....we will face this problem with everyone...Just look at Russia, they are twisting our whole body forget about arm....and let me assure you everyone will do the same....its business.

Israel is offering us better deal, i hope we go to Israel for mirage...

You are talking about US companies who loves to play dirty (we don't have experience)....

according to me Boeing might have paid the bribe and trying to get Rafale out of the competition as their are already reports that Rafale is favorite among all of them (and they have previously also tried similar tricks). Boeing knows IAF is against US fighter jets...so they are trying all possible tricks...
