IAF Wing Commander Dismissed For Demanding Bribery

True, but dismissing him alone isn't an example, the punishment should be much more radical and clear, that asking or taking bribes will cause drastic consequences, no matter how high the ammount was. If he really gets dismissed only, this is clearly the wrong signal IAF/MoD can send!

There is little else besides a jail term that he could get.

I wouldn't mind a jail term for bribery too, but there could also be financial punishments. The officers must simply have it in mind, what could happen to them, before they ask for or take bribers, otherwise we won't reduce this problem.

Not that I am trying to justify what the rascal did but it is unfortunate that its only the Def Services who come down heavily on misdemeanors.

It would be unfair to hang a man for 20000.00 while the Babus & Politicians get away with Crs .

But when you start make exceptions, or to downplay it, you always will find reasons why they shouldn't be punished and nobody will learn, or even fear any punishment. Of course you need to get the top guys too, but India needs a more rigorous policy against bribery. He might not need to be punished the same why like a top guy, but still simple dismissal is too soft.

Perhaps that is the idea. The Lizards tail effect...make a mountain out of a relative molehill and shove it all around.. so that everyone focuses on that.. while the Lizard gets away.

India has policies & rules for everything under the sun - possibly among the best in the world.

Its the enforcement that is lacking by design.

Bang on.

Years of training.. Following your dreams to throw it away.

Can not hang those idiot who only want ₹20000 :pop:

boycotting from society ,refunding 100 times the bribe amount plus 6 month jail. that punishment I would have given. but I won't have taken away his job.he will have shame in his eyes when he rejoins and would be fully aggressively anti corrupted officer.

That doesn't fit here, since this case wasn't brought up by Indian officials, but the French informed the MoD and it went according the rules for that. So it wasn't in any of IAF officials or MoDs hands anymore and they had to investigate and put him to court anyway, especially since it was reported in the media.
Also a stronger sign and bragging about it in the media would normally be the perfect chance for politicians or officials to show off, but so far nobody came in front to gave statements about it. In fact, after this case came up, it was obvious that IAF and parts of MoD was very unhappy about it and that such things happend in front of the public and the media. I'm sure they would have dealt with it behind closed doors if they could have.

India has policies & rules for everything under the sun - possibly among the best in the world.

But nobody cares about it, as you can see otherwise an officier wouldn't dare to ask for such peanuts like he did.

IAF sacks Wing Commander over bribery charges

New Delhi: IAF has dismissed a Wing Commander who was allegedly caught demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 from officials of a French defence firm at the Aero India show in Bangalore in 2011.
Wing Commander A K Thakur was dismissed after a General Court Martial found him guilty of seeking bribe from French defence firm Dassault Aviation during the show in February 2011, IAF sources said on Tuesday. Thakur was accused of demanding bribe for allotting a 'more advantageous position' for its Rafale aircraft in the 'static' aircraft display section at the biennial airshow, the sources said.
An official of Dassault Aviation, who had filed a complaint against the officer, also appeared before the GCM headed by a Group Captain-rank officer, the sources said. Dassault Aviation's Rafale, which has now won the race for IAF's multi-billion dollar combat aircraft deal, was one of the six contenders in the hotly-contested tender when the alleged incident took place.

The GCM had recommended Thakur's dismissal last year itself but its recommendations could not be confirmed so far as the officer had approached the courts seeking relief.
At least we sack officers if caught for impropriety, bribery etc. How many has Pakistan sacked, especially senior officers? The lame duck government of Pakistan can't, as the PA rules the roost.

The reality is that the generals in Pakistan wish to remain unaccountable to other institutions and the public at large. According to Ayesha Siddiqua, in her seminal study, "Military Inc", the army's private business assets are worth around £10bn and it owns a handsome share of the country's business and land. The generals, as a result, appear to be more interested in leveraging control over businesses, properties and politics.

Having said that, now check this out...

So Windjammer, how about posting some of the huge corruption stories about the Pakistan Army too, for providing balance to this otherwise subjective discussion?

Actually you were hoping that windy or any other Pakistani won't post this news here. ;)

Who said that to you? I already posted that 2hrs before windy. But he did not check it and started a thread.
