At a time when the big bosses in South Block and Armed Forces establishments are issuing diktats to personnel about use of internet, the Indian Air Force, on Wednesday inaugurated the Information Warfare School at the Air Force Station, Jalahalli.

The school is aimed at training Air Force personnel in the field of cyber warfare to face ever growing and evolving challenges of cyberspace.

“This school will impart training on various aspects of cyber security which has become extremely important in the increasingly network-centric battlefield, and is expected to provide the much needed impetus in this critical area,” Air Marshal Rajinder Singh Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command said in a statement.

Use of computers and networks in the armed forces has reached a stage wherein the need for specialist workforce to operate, maintain and protect these critical assets has assumed paramount importance, the statement added. The school, it said, would provide the necessary infrastructure to IAF to prepare its manpower for the next generation battlefield.

Singh stated that the IAF has put in significant effort to develop capabilities to incorporate information warfare assets and eventually integrate its concepts into our warfare doctrines. He said that the school was a manifestation of these efforts.
