Yes and all these ranges are very altitude specific. Given that Meteors are capable of maneuvering at the terminal stage, it is not advisable to presume that it is lesser than PL 15 by simply going with the advertised range.Around 160km. PL 15 is said to be around 200km
R-77-1 is its another nameRVV-SD sounds lethal, I tried researching its combat record online but could not find any.
I expanded my search to all Russian BVR missile - still nothing.
Surely, this and other lethal Russian BVR missile has many....many combat kills under its belt. Please can you provide us the details.
Article reads like someone's wet dream. Whatever happened to all the existing inventory of BVRs that IAF had from the last 20+ yrs? Suddenly the Indians are foaming at mouth about Meteor.
R-77-1 is its another name
Good to read confirmation of BVR upgrade from the chief. But why was this not paid attention to from 2010 or so when Pakistan had acquired the C5s from US?
Well done Indians, well done!!!
It was raining, gloomy here...thankyou Indians for lifting up the mood!
ShooperPauer...yeah!!!
R-77 by no means is a inferior AAM. Its just Indian habit to blame IAF incompetencies on technology.
IAF acquired 500 latest version back in 2011 which is same equivalent version of AMRAAM C5.Older version of R-77 is said to have only 80 KM range even as per Russian sources
Every other article to ensure Indian excuses of that so-called strike so no further questions may be asked.
On a serious note: IAF is on a well paid shopping spree without any doubt but then again, such bragging meets disappointment on occasions when occurs. Lest just say that IAF is preparing but the habit of bravado isn't going away. Hence, as long as such esteem remains; there will be less of affect into applying tactics.
For India if they dont have advantage of at least 5 times bigger quantity and quality then its not a fair game.
Induction of new RVV-SD BVR missiles confirmed by IAF CAS.
RVV-SD has a range of 110 km and thus has superior range and better No escape zone than AIM-120C5.
Ita not confirmed that AIM 120C5 has less than 110km. There are Parameters which define the range. @airomerix @Dazzler
Secondly, we are getting PL 15s which are long Range AAM( as stated by Chinese and Western sources). Their range as stated is greater than Meteor. So in Future since our BVR would be having greater range, u guys will be left with the same situation as 27 Feb i.e Outgunned by PAF
Meteor is superior to PL-15 because it uses ramjet engine whereas PL15 still uses older tech of dual pulse engine which means not only Meteor has a superior no escape zone but it also is capable of terminal stage manuevers. This is great news for India, how are they dealing with PL15 with Block 3s, which has range uptill 180kms...
No new type of missiles were purchased in 2011.IAF acquired 500 latest version back in 2011 which is same equivalent version of AMRAAM C5.
@Deino @Beast @LKJ86Meteor is superior to PL-15 because it uses ramjet engine whereas PL15 still uses older tech of dual pulse engine which means not only Meteor has a superior no escape zone but it also is capable of terminal stage manuevers.
More importantly since next war is going to happen no later than Mar-Apr 2022, which means at that time PAF will have only 16 PL-15 equipped JF-17 BLK3 whereas IAF will have all 36 Rafales.
No new type of missiles were purchased in 2011.
