Assalamu Aliakum/Greetings friends,

During the past 5 to 6 years, I have been becoming more and more homesick, I really badly want to go back to Pakistan and go on with studies over there. (It is not because I have no friends, please do not get me wrong. I have plenty of great friends, Irish, Italian, Greek, and lots of Armenian and Brazillian friends, you name them. I have a great social life as well :usflag:). But I don't belong here, there is a saying in pashto; zama ki aw pada ki da zmaki aw da asmaaan parakh de (meaning between me and him, there is land and sky differences) What I'm saying is, there is land and sky difference between me and Americans, I don't share the same language (although yes I can speak English) culture, religion etc...

I know exactly how you feel, as I feel the same way. I can't wait till I get out, too and I'm a lot older than you are. And I'm asimilated in this culutre quiet well, too but it's not me. And every time I visit Pakistan, I get this sense of belonging that I dont get here.

For your case, since your parents are here with you, it'll be hard to break away from them and start a life in Pak. Then you'll start to miss them there and they you here.

Seems like your're around 20. I would say start telling your parents how you feel and see where they stand on this. Meanwhile continue your education here. Keep evaluating yourself, to see if you still want to move back.

And if in the next two to three years or whatever, you still want to move back after your education, I would say go ahead with it. Becuse if you wait too long and get a job here and settle down, it'll be a lot harder to move back. Like it has for me, with kids. But I'm still adamant about moving back.

Whatever you decide, best of luck.

I think you should follow your heart beats and that will bring you best. I was home sick while I am lived in America too, and yes nothing better than my father land [Viet Nam]. (Even though VN really poor comparing with US)

For now, I live 6 months in US and 6 months in Viet Nam. Of course, I am not young like you so things will be hard for you if you are a student.

Dude, People i know in Pakistan want to get out of there and you want to go back?. Maybe because i have never been there so i don't know how it feels to be there and maybe i will never feel that taste. Well, i can tell you is that going back to Pakistan doesn't means that you show how much you love it or stay away doesn't mean you hate or you have just forgotten your culture. You want to go back? It's cool but, if i was in your shoes, i would have never given up oppotunity for the best education to get. I would sugguest to obey your parents and study there only. It's just my opinion 'cause if you have US degree, you can settle anywhere in the world you want to and you still can expect a bright future. Here in Kuwait, i have seen many Pakistinis who have come with Pakistani degree, although some of them were lucky enough to get higher posts or else, most of them i have seen disappointment, whereas US degree holders are always on higher demand. My cousins came with US degree and they were accepted over another Pakistani,Indian and Egyption guys who were having more grades than them but was holding Pakistani,Indian or Egyption degree( I am saying this from studies and point of view. BTW, i have plans to settle in either UK,USA or Canada, i am 19 right now... i am now getting concerned of what's happening ther

I think every human on Earth in every nation feels homesick regardless of the situation both at home and in their current country. People tend to be drawn back towards that which they are comfortable with.

Soviets who defected to the USA in the cold war almost all, to a man, became terribly homesick for mother Russia, even though they lived a lucrative life in the USA. And every time I travel abroad, I can't wait to get home.

All that said, don't be precipitous - think long term. Would another 3 or 4 years set you up better for later in life? Pakistan will be there waiting for you. Don't do anything hasty.

Assalamu Aliakum/Greetings friends,

As many of you may know by now, I live in the U.S and I'm a Pakistani. I've been living in the U.S for almost 13/14 years now, practically almost all my life. My first 3 to 4 years were in Pakistan. Although I came to the U.S at such a young age (Im 18 now), I have not forgotten my language, and neither have I forgotten my family and home. I make small trips back home once in a while only during summer vacations (And Please TRUST me when I say I have not forgotten my HOME, FAMILY, LANGUAGE, CULTURE etc... The last thing I would want in my life is changing my identity)

I'm just really homesick right now and would like to be around Pakistanis. But you know how parents are, they want the best education that's available for you. I want to become an Aeronautical Engineer and Pakistan has great colleges/universities for such a field. How can I influence my Parents that I want to go back to Pakistan and I can continue my studies over there. Just How? Someone please spare some time and help me. :shout::bad:

Make Pakistani friends in the U.S. At least you will be able to relate to him/her. If you can't find a Pakistani where you live, go to your local Mosque or MSA (Muslim Student Association) and find Muslim friends (regardless of ethnicity or race). At least he will not ask you stupid questions like why don't you eat pork, why don't you drink alcohol, why are you close with your family, etc...

Complete your education and come back to help the country and live in your motherland.

. . .
Complete your education my friend and than go back home, you will serve your motherland much better. I understand where your coming from, i just recently moved back home after completing my education in Canada. I have never felt more at home, the soil the land is mine and my forefathers fought for this land with their blood. Its my right to be here and its my duty to make this country better so our future generations will have a more comfortable life.

But don't think that life here is easy, there is a difference between vacation and living. Life in Pakistan is tough, and this constant load shedding is a real pain in the a**. But that being said, i could not be more bullish on Pakistan. Things are tough but they are slowly improving, and in my opinion things will get much better by next year. There is no better feeling than living back in your home land. The food, the people and the social life is absolutely great. I had several friends in Canada but never genuine like my friends back home here in Lahore. In my opinion, Pakistan is the ideal place to live for us Pakistanis. I know of several Pakistanis whom were desperate to get out of Pakistan and are now regretting their decision of leaving Pakistan.

lol racism is a pretty common thing in U.S, If your not in for taking in racist comments, then your gonna have a pretty miserable life over here. Although Im white its hard to tell Im from middle east, or south Asian until I say I'm Pakistani.

Sir,

And you think that you won't face rascism in pakistan---then you are in for a surprise---.

That's where you belong then. I actually get home sick when I stay in India for a while.

Hi,

Similar incident happened with me. Though i was in US for 3 years only to pursue Engineering degree and on a full scholarship. But even those perks couldn't stop me. I talked to my parents back in Pakistan and they agreed that there is no point in continuing in a place where my grades would suffer. But then in my case i moved from USA to UK, a place which has been a bit more easy for me plus 90% of my life long friends are studying or working here and have tons of family members in UK. So for me it is easy.

Just talk to you parents and explain them your concerns.

I'd say complete your Degree education in USA and then go to Pakistan. Racism, whether USA, UK or Australia, you have it everywhere.

For aeronautics, the only good place in Pakistan is PAF academy/NUST. You can try for that, but you better start doing research now before you present your case to your parents. Let them know what your plan is. You don't want to go to Pakistan and then be like, WTF i wanna go back to the US.

And the Jobs are even less in Pakistan for Aeronautics. You will repairing/maintaining jet engines with PIA or maybe get employed by PAF and work on JF-17s. But thats it.

If you ask me, go for Mechanical Engineering. Much safer option and you can practically go anywhere with that degree....from Manufacturing, Power plants to Automotive and Jet Engines.
