Assalamu Aliakum/Greetings friends,

As many of you may know by now, I live in the U.S and I'm a Pakistani. I've been living in the U.S for almost 13/14 years now, practically almost all my life. My first 3 to 4 years were in Pakistan. Although I came to the U.S at such a young age (Im 18 now), I have not forgotten my language, and neither have I forgotten my family and home. I make small trips back home once in a while only during summer vacations (And Please TRUST me when I say I have not forgotten my HOME, FAMILY, LANGUAGE, CULTURE etc... The last thing I would want in my life is changing my identity)

During the past 5 to 6 years, I have been becoming more and more homesick, I really badly want to go back to Pakistan and go on with studies over there. (It is not because I have no friends, please do not get me wrong. I have plenty of great friends, Irish, Italian, Greek, and lots of Armenian and Brazillian friends, you name them. I have a great social life as well :usflag:). But I don't belong here, there is a saying in pashto; zama ki aw pada ki da zmaki aw da asmaaan parakh de (meaning between me and him, there is land and sky differences) What I'm saying is, there is land and sky difference between me and Americans, I don't share the same language (although yes I can speak English) culture, religion etc... I'm just really homesick right now and would like to be around Pakistanis. But you know how parents are, they want the best education that's available for you. I want to become an Aeronautical Engineer and Pakistan has great colleges/universities for such a field. How can I influence my Parents that I want to go back to Pakistan and I can continue my studies over there. Just How? Someone please spare some time and help me. :shout::bad:

Do you feel any racism there?
I guess you can apply to some good uni in pakistan, and if they accept, your parents will surely agree.
If you are with your parents how can you feel homesick?(if you went there at age of 3/4)

lol racism is a pretty common thing in U.S, If your not in for taking in racist comments, then your gonna have a pretty miserable life over here. Although Im white its hard to tell Im from middle east, or south Asian until I say I'm Pakistani.

been there done it my friend. ^ that stuff gets boring, Ill say pass. Im homesick, I miss my family, home, everything Pakistani.

If you can take 1 year break and go to pakistan ... see if u like it without making any commitment ... idealistic dreams in the mind can be beautiful but without a reality check you will remain always in the dark shadows of mental projections ...

Is your family in pakistan? I thought you said your family is in US.
Try not to join any group and stay safe.

You should have went to Pakistan for winter break if you are feeling homesick. Islamabad and Lahore are awesome during this time of the year. If you would like to visit the northern part of the country, visit in the summer.

Go to Pakistan for spring break. Finish your studies and then go back to Pakistan permanently. Education in the U.S. is still the best, and you'll get more respect in Pakistan once you have a degree from a university in the U.S. or Europe.

If you can't find a good job in Pakistan then life can be hell for you there because without money life is hard in Pakistan.

Just wait until Imran Khan becomes Prime Minister :pakistan:

It's your life do what you feel is right. Parents will get over it.

Though it is best you finish your education in US first then return to Pakistan. You're not alone I can relate to your experience and thoughts.

Top priority for you right now is to finish higher education and get job experiences in US. After that, you will decide which you will to do next steps.

Wsalam

I know many american and British teenagers who went Pakistan to complete their college ,university education and its good experience for them to learn languages and get awareness of cultures and all others issues happening in our country. I don't know how long your excitement will be alive if you go back to Pakistan but there are pros and cons living in west as well as in Pakistan. I am sure you will miss your family if you go back in pakistan, But i will say go for it for a change and to experience a different world :)

Good thread. I feel the same as you. In Pakistan even the most simple things are fun. The air smells and tastes sweeter. The fruit is awesome, and there is nothing better than to go hang out with friends at night. I miss Pakistan too although I was there for 6 months this year. Life in US feels morbid.
